The response we’ve gotten to our event has been an absolute wonder. This started as a joke between friends about how we’d love to see more Gwapple Rarepair content on our dashes and ended up becoming this magnificent whirlwind of puns, friendship and… love.

We can’t thank you guys enough for spreading the word about our event, for the endless amounts of positivity we’ve received so far and for being the kind of warm and precious people who have kept this fandom alive for so many years.

Don’t forget to show some of the kindness and positivity you’ve shown us, to the content creators who participate in our event, as well! slightly niche but is gwapple accepted for camelove and would that come under the free day? i know it's a bit of a meme but sometimes memes can make comedic fics. if it isn't accepted, that's totally fine, just thought i'd ask :)

If Gwapple is your niche, then we’ll allow - nay - encourage you to run wild with your fruity fantasies. 

It can most certainly fit Free Day, but why stop there? The themes are up to your interpretation! 

If, for Ladies First, you think of The Dolma being adorably domestic with a tart old Granny Smith, write it! If you picture, for Cupid’s Aro, Balinor taking a bite out of a Bramley Apple Pie, draw it! If, for Always By Your Side, you count Gwaine’s favourite fruit as a side character... how about a 50k Slow-Braeburn, with Sir L'Oréal-locks Gwapple-ing for the affections of his blushing Pink Lady?

But, full disclosure, I’m pretty sure Gwaine pear-ed with an apple will not be the craziest thing to come out of this event. We knew what we were getting into when we created it, and we’re more than pre-peared to be fruit-bowled over by a whole buffet of weird and wonderful creations. 

This event (dare I say Gala... sorry) is open to pretty much anything, as long as everyone is safe and respected and all that Jazz.

You don't know how happy you made me by including a day for aromantic love. The moment I saw this I was positively shocked because I never thought that I would get some representation in a fest about love but yes!! Omg, this just made my day! I can't wait to see all the entrys.

We’re so thrilled that Cupid’s Aro made you happy! 🏹💚

When we set out to create this event, our aim (🎯... I can’t stop myself) was to show love to all the relationships in BBC’s Merlin, especially those that are underrated and underrepresented... and we don’t just mean rarepairs. We’re also referring to the deep friendships, dedicated familial ties, loyal mentor/mentee relationships and more.

We know that not all love is romantic, and that no one type of love is greater than another. Having people like you see themselves acknowledged is all part of how we intend to spread love (in all its forms) during this event, and we’re so happy to see that it’s hit the target (again - sorry) so far. 

That our event means something to you means a lot to us. We hope you get to enjoy many, many works that you find yourself represented in over the course of Camelove 2021.

Is there a minimum or maximum word count for fic writers? I've found that I'm really excited about the themes and my draft fics are getting kinda long. (Also, your Gwapple response was fantastic.)

As stated in the FAQ, we’ve decided to keep this event low-threshold in order to ease the pressure and make taking part - especially if you want to aim for a completionist title - more accessible. This means that there is no minimum word count for fics. 

In a similar vein, we want our contributors' imaginations to flow freely. We’d never ask you to put a cap on those creative juices, but rather to let whatever crazy cocktails you’ve got brewing in those Big Brains™ spill over into a sea of works and words on which your ships (romantic or plank-tonic) can set sail. 

So, no, there is no maximum word count either.

Sorry if this was asked already, but do the contributions need to be set in Canon Era or can they be Modern Day AU too?

First of all: this wasn’t asked already, but even if it had been, there wouldn’t be a need to apologise. Though, since you asked, we’ve now added a compilation of all our previous asks to our FAQ so that you can check whether or not a question of yours has been answered.    

Secondly: whenever, wherever and whatever your works are set in is entirely up to you. One of our mods is practically frothing at the mouth at the idea of Leon being treated to a spa day for Cupid’s Aro. If I were to write it, I’d have my immortally-suffering sod bubble over with glee as he experiences a bath bomb for the first time - which, apparently, would have to be 1989. Cut our boy a mullet (which, inarguably, is a look that Will Never Go Out Of Style) and make your Wildest Dreams a reality. 

Of course, the universe you choose to create could also be entirely separate from canon, too. A Modern AU perhaps, like you suggest, wherein an umbrella-less Leon gets an impromptu shower on the way home from a Slam Poetry night. Or - just as Lush - a future Space!AU where he goes for a spontaneous skinny dip on Mars. Not even the sky is a limit, on this occasion.
