At best she might “merge” with the “other” Ayano, but I think her eventual “vanishment” is pretty set in stone since she acknowledges it herself. =( It’s a shame, since for the first time I’m really rooting for her to live (as well as her love for Shintaro, since she actually has a good reason to like him now compared to regular Aya IMO), when in the past I always disliked the idea of Ayano returning from the Daze since I thought it went against the theme of “moving on”.
Sorry to take so long on this response!
Merge might be something, I’m perhaps unfairly concerned she’ll be somewhat forgotten about though.
Because Ayano has had a lot more screentime, I find it easier to be content with her pairing, though I’m not really that opposed to the concept of Ayaki’s ship either, it just doesn’t illicit the same emotional response. Outside of tragedy perhaps. So hopefully we’ll see more of her so I can have a more similar connection. I think conceptually, she has a solid personality, I just need to see more.
I never felt that about the theme, given that it was only because he was moving on that they were able to save her, but I’m aware that’s extremely unpopular as an opinion, and likely convoluted to others.
All this said, I think fan content will play a big factor in how I warm up to her. There’s so much potential for interactions and AUs with her, I can see her being really fascinating in a way I don’t think she’ll have a chance to be in canon. So I hope we get to see some of that as things slow down once August passes
