Hey, so I'm not trying to sound rude, but gender fluid and trans people so often seem to change or identify as that because of gender stereotypes. If a guy likes dresses and pink stuff then people seem to assume that he's trans, for instance. Could you help me understand it more? I feel like it's also an emotional thing, but I still don't fully understand. Thanks! ❤️💛💚💙💜
Nicki Says:
Okay, so, this can be really hard to understand. Personally, I describe my genderfluidity as “a fluctuating discomfort with being female”. I am afab, meaning that doctors pointed at me and said “girl” and therefore I have all the parts and the societal pressures that women have. Some days, I love to wear makeup and dresses and bring out my femininity. Other days, I want to tear my boobs off and cut my hair short. It’s all about self-image.
Granted, I can’t speak for all trans/nb people, but there really is a dysphoria/discomfort aspect to being trans.
I'm 17 biological female, I told my mom I was born wrong with I was 7 I got comfortable with myself when I was 13 and now I'm having second thoughts again. Some advice?
Nicki Says:
It’s very possible that you could be genderfluid and just move around every few years. There’s no time limit for your switches when it comes to being fluid, so you could be.
The other explanation, one that I don’t usually like to say, is that it could very well just be a phase. When we’re getting older and growing up, we sometimes question ourselves. However, considering that you’ve had these feelings before, I would look into being genderfluid and being nonbinary in general.
