Meet Chalad Akamai

hey y’all! mod Ral is here to apologise for the lack of posts (i haven’t posted in almost 2 months jfc how-) but don’t fret! i am alive and well, school is going good so far (even though stress is a constant in my life), my depression has subsided ever since Mallek’s friendsim (guys we are blessed i repeat we are blessed-) and it was my birthday last week so yeah things are going pretty great so far! time is my only enemy but ^^; i’m not a quitter so here i am! back again with another oc! so let’s not waste anymore time because wow i can’t wait for y’all to meet this sweet boi-

1. Basic information

The boy’s name, as you can all see, is Chalad Akamai and he’s a bronzeblood, Chalad meaning “clever” in Thai and Akamai meaning  “wisdom” in Hawaiian. I always choose my ocs’ names based on their main traits, as you will see pretty soon why exactly i have chosen these words for him!

So after creating Kevala, i needed to make a troll that would be much kinder, softer - basically i needed a sweetheart who would know Kevala well and still be his matesprit at the same time, which sounded impossible to me at first, but then i came up with Chalad and everything seemed logical all of a sudden. I like to think he’s the only sane one in this whole session because let’s be real here, we need more mentally stable ocs. Good-natured and kind-hearted ocs. He’s been raised to be a softie by his lusus, owldad, an exceptionally wise creature who is against violence. He’s the size of a normal owl with some bronze-coloured feathers here and there and he’s pretty majestic tbh.

Chalad lives in a medium-sized hive from a nice and quiet neighbourhood and he loves it. He’s never really been a fan of noise, and the silenceis  even more convenient since many other lusii come to visit his neighbourhood every once in a while - which is how he became fascinated by them and the planet in general. He didn’t really think about the pros of building his hive there as a wriggler but he’s glad things turned out the way they did.

2. Personality, traits etc.

Chalad isn’t difficult to understand at all. Although a bit shy, once you get to know him and become his friend (which isn’t that hard because he’s emotionally starved), he would literally die for you. I mean it, he wouldn’t even hesitate. Lord knows that if he didn’t have his friends by his side to put some damn sense into him, he would have already died a few times just out of kindness. Which means he’s selfless, something that doesn’t do him that much good but he’s very proud of.

He likes being there for people (even though most may not deserve it), because he knows that if the roles were reversed, he would have liked to have someone to help him go through stuff. Growing up shy, he’s never had that many friends to begin with, which made him feel lonely, so he knows best what’s like to have no one. He’s not salty about it though, god no, he’d rather die. 

As willing as he is to help people out with their problems, if they don’t want him there then he gets the hint and won’t bother them again in the future. Chalad would still worry for them, of course, but he would respect their wish and boundaries, because he’s respectful alright. He’s a considerate guy who would always put other people’s needs above his own. He also tends to have great expectations and most of the time he ends up being disappointed.

The main reason for being like this has already been mentioned, but i feel like emphasizing it a bit - he’s lonely. Nothing else brings him more joy than being useful to a person in need and he lowkey feels like a hero afterwards. And trust me, seeing him smile in content would light up anyone’s, so please handle him with great care!! Lord knows he deserves it.

Now let’s talk a bit about his past, shall we? Chalad used to be (and still is) fascinated by different types of lusii, but also by clouds! He would lay on the ground outside his hive and just watch the clouds, their various shapes for hours and would not get bored in the slightest. He considers it to be a very efficient way of clearing your head and putting your thoughts in order, not to mention it’s also a great stress relief. When he’s not studying about Alternia’s weird fauna he’s looking at the sky, feeling lucky he’s still alive and well to enjoy simple things as this.

3. Additional information about Sburb

Easily excited by most things, when Chalad first heard about this game he wasted no time in making sure he plays it. So of course, he is the very first who enters the game. He took things seriously right from the beginning, maybe too seriously, because although being a Rogue of Light gave him the ability of sharing his knowledge with others, he may have chosen too quickly (out of urgency, probably) who to trust with important intel (because apparently they weren’t exactly trustworthy), which resulted in him being stabbed to death. But don’t worry guys, because his matesprit Kevala was nearby to bring him to his quest bed!! that was a close one guys

His medium is the Land of Shadows and Fright, and i imagine his mission to be helping the consorts get rid of the sneaky shadows of whatever creatures seem to haunt the medium. The shadows are so terrifying that the consorts can’t even sleep without the dreadful feeling that they’re constantly being watched. Chalad would have to share his knowledge about the creatures’ weaknesses with the consorts in order to help them, and at last to cast a light so strong that it surrounds the whole medium, completely getting rid of the shadows.

aaaand this is all i have to say about this sweetheart! okay i lied, i would talk about Chalad for HOURS but it’s past midnight and i have school tomorrow ^^; but i really hope you enjoyed reading about him and you’re now free to interact with him! see y’all in the next post (which will hopefully not be only after another 2 months lmao)

hello world

y’all might wonder what this post is about, but fear not, fellas, you’ll find out soon enough! i figured it was finally time to show some signs of life on this blog and i wanna introduce myself, so here we go!

i’m the one and only mod Ral, a gal that is lucky enough to have mod Leo as a moirail! i’m gonna be in the last year of highschool once school starts (y’all better pray for me-) and i like indulging myself in writing and roleplaying whenever i get the chance!

i consider myself to be an easygoing kind of person with many interests! my tastes in music, tv shows and movies (and everything else really) are all over the place so if you have any suggestions don’t be afraid to tell me all about them! i’ll be sure to check them out when i’m free!

recently i began taking driving lessons and doing my holidays homework, but of course procrastination hits me hard (senioritis at its best?), so i’ll try my hardest to spend my time having fun with you all on this blog! oh and if you wanna know more about me or mod Leo, the ask box is open :)

Oh uhm that’s a nice post you have here dear moirail, but I’d say you’re not talking enough about how you are, so fear not, dear fellas (we are so european), Mod Leo is here to put some order in this post.

Ral Ral Ral. That’s a great girl! I’d say she’s even the best of all, but thanks to her personality she’d porbably say it’s not true, but if you get to know her you’ll see she is just a big liar :p As a moirail (or what we can understand of what’s it’s supposed to be), she always keeps me from punching people, and it’s my top desire 60% of the time, and over these months I’ve only punched one person and it was kindly. But helping me calm down over everything is not the only thing she does! The RAL3000 can also cheer you up when you are in the worst mood, even if you don’t even tell her! Talking to her just makes me forget about everything, like if I had my problems in my coat and Ral was a radiator, which obviously would make me take off the coat. (you’ll get to see that my analogies are the best ever)

Out of being a super hero to me, saving me from doing a few stupid things, she’s just so fun to talk to! As I am kind of the weird guy you don’t want to talk to in the block, she doesn’t give a fuck about it and respects me, even if she’s more accepted than me in the society. Ral is the only person I can totally open my heart to, I guess talking daily for more than year builds that type of relationship, but since it’s probably the first time I’ve had such a precious person in my life. Okay now that sounds way too cheesy, and it’s not all about how she is, but speaking my mind is something I try to do more, and just writing everything that goes through my mind at the moment is one of my hobbies. A response to Takashi’s conspiracy theories

A few months ago on my primary blog zennistrad a user by the name of takashi0 got involved in a an exchange with me after he'd been reblogged by rationalsjdiscussions, someone whom I’m quite fond of. During this exchange, I’d linked him to this video by L0G1C B0MB debunking the numerous conspiracy theories against the game critic Anita Sarkeesian and told him that he’d failed to respond to him the last I’d linked it to him.

(I highly recommend this video to anyone who has half an hour to spare: it’s an excellent debunking of the standard anti-SJW bullshit you hear about her, as well as an excellent examination of paranoid and conspiratorial thought process.)

Anyway, during this particular hostile encounter, Takashi had said this to me explaining why he’d not watched the video:

1. I probably got distracted by something else

and

2. It’s pretty much pointless because not only is your head wedged so firmly up your ass you’ve repeatedly demonstrated you won’t listen to the evidence thrown in your damn face, but the mods over at Tvtropes are just as bad.

I’ve had this post sitting in my drafts long enough, so what I’m going to do in this post is I’m going to take a look at Tak’s “evidence” and see how well it holds up to skepticism and rational scrutiny. (Spoiler: not very well at all.)

Well for one thing,

At this point Takashi links to the infamous “not a gamer” video that ended up getting circulated wildly across the internet, sans context. This is of course ignoring the fact that there is, in truth, a completely logical explanation for this: that, at the time, she bought into the myth that you weren’t a “real gamer” if you liked “casual games.”

Given that the statement was at the tail end of the Wii era, where scorn for “casual gamers” was at its peak (just look at this 100% unironic strip from VG Catz, one of the most popular gaming webcomics), I don’t really find this claim to be too far-fetched. But for people like Tak it’s usually brushed off as a “rationalization” because it requires accepting that there may have been some unwelcoming aspects of the gaming communities he’s been a part of, and that would hurt his fragile ego.

And here’s this info from fuck-no-bullshit

Anita has been proved over and over that she is a thief, a liar, a scam artist, racist, bigoted, slut-shamer, segregationist tax evader.

She’s a video game “critic” who spends more time talking about games than playing them. Since all she does is talk, you can guess how many of the games she talks about she’s played.Anita did a class in scamming. Literally. She then started seminars teaching people how to copy other people’s handwriting which was all endorced by fake PR firms she set up with her friends. Another scam she and her buddies did was help people lose weight by hypnosis.

This is one of the first signs of anomaly-hunting we see in L0G1C B0MB’s video: finding something that looks strange and then treating it, without basis, as evidence of some ulterior motive. We’re going to be seeing a lot of these.

The evidence being presented here is that she worked with some guy named Bart Baggett (there are other claims but they’re not backed up by anything resembling evidence so I feel confident dismissing them.) Note that there is no information whatsoever about how she had gotten the job: the earliest evidence of their relationship, according to this article exposing her “scams”, was 2005, before she’d received her degree in 2010. As many people working in college are desperate to take any job they can find, there is no reason to assume working with Bart Baggett is evidence that she approves of or takes after his practices: it could be that he was simply the only good employer.

Anita endorced a man called Alex Mandossian — a well known internet marketting scammer. What he did? He taught you how to use psychological tricks to get people to support you and endorse you no matter what you do. He taught people how to use cognitive dissonance to “make the herd follow you”. Anita Sarkeesian has attended many of these seminars. That cost 2000 bucks a seminar, by the way. Here’s a documentary about the scams. Here’s a video of Alex’s class. And here is both Alex Mandossian and Eben Pagan, two con artists Anita has been seen with or is known to have attend seminars of.

The evidence of Anita endorsing Alex Mandossian comes from a video testimony promoting teleseminars. Here’s the problem: the sort of teleseminar testimonial you’re seeing in that video is indicative of a multi-level marketing scheme, which is essentially the same as a pyramid scheme. Due to the fact that selling a product via multi-level marketing scam means being recruited into a multi-level marketing scam, what this would most likely show that she was the victim of a barely legal scam.

From what I could find, the connection to Eben Pagan is even more tenuous. The only evidence I could locate was this KotakuInAction post that made the claim that Alex Mandossian was affiliated with Eben Pagan: not that Anita was herself directly associated with Heben Pagan. This is two degrees of separation, and the first degree is still weak at best. I’m reminded here of a particular scene from Spaceballs.

Anita is not an academic. She has a degree in communication, but has never spent a day of her life in women’s studies. She has, quite literally, no idea what she’s talking about. Seeing as Feminist Frequency is a scam and only exists so she can steal money, she doesn’t care. Her videos are scripted, and on live she is unable to find examples. For instance, game developer Danial Vavera claims she shot a woman in his game and then lied and said the game forced her to do this.

Anita had received $160’000 in donation for her videos. The quality of the videos has, since then, not increased.

Most of this is a series of irrelevant personal attacks, an unsourced statement, and at one point even commits the fallacy of begging the question by assuming the conclusion it’s trying to prove as a premise (“Seeing as Feminist Frequency is a scam and only exists so she can steal money,” etc.) I’m going to ignore the first paragraph. The second one is where things get interesting. After saying that “the quality of videos has not increased”, Tak (and fuck-no-bullshit as well) posts this:

What’s fascinating about this image is that it completely disproves the point it is trying to prove: if you look at it closely, the top half is fuzzier than the bottom. Not to mention that this is ignoring the fact that Anita’s earlier videos don’t have as much effort put into the title card animations and other presentational flairs: compare this earlier video to the first video after her Kickstarter.

Note: Anita had been making videos for a long time already, and had never needed the money before.

This is stupid, as it’s quite obvious that the money was used to increase production quality, as demonstrated above.

In her KickStarter, Anita promised Backer Rewards — none have been given. She also promised to have all videos done by a certain date, however, 2 years after the deadline, had not even finished.

Most Kickstarters deliver late. This isn’t anything particularly strange: Kickstarter themselves have commented on it and said that lateness is not synonymous with failure. If anything, I would attribute the sheer lateness of the project to being unequipped to deal with the unexpected amount of funding, plus having to deal with the excess public exposure following the controversy that erupted. Plus, to be honest, I regard her as an amateur anyway so I don’t think its too unexpected that she’d have a hard time managing a project given the relative lack of experience she had at the beginning.

Anita also whored herself out on 4Chan and reddit to get people to watch her video.

After this statement, Tak posts these images:

Which is funny because both of these images only count as “evidence” if you immediately believe the people posting them are who they say they are. On an anonymous board. And not just any anonymous board, but 4chan. People lie about their identity on 4chan all the time, and anyone who frequents the boards knows this. Why would anyone uncritically believe that these posts are really her?

And furthermore, even if they were her, how is that relevant? Even if these posts were her (and there’s no reason to believe they were), there’s nothing really wrong with that. I’ve heard people claim she was “provoking” harassment, but that’s basically nothing more than an attempt to deflect the blame away from the people who actually deserve it (i.e. the people decided that advertising a web series on 4chan was somehow wrong and thought sending rape and death threats was an acceptable response.)

Anita is a thief. She didn’t play the games she criticised. She knew basically nothing about the games she was talking about.

These pictures are funny because they in no way prove that she didn’t play the games. Seriously, they don’t. It does not logically follow that using let’s play footage is evidence that she didn’t play the games.

Plus lots of people do the same thing when covering video games in the media because it’s more cost-efficient to do so, and it’s allowed under fair use. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, since the person you’re “stealing” from has no exclusive right, legally or ethically, to claim ownership of the footage.

This issue had already been resolved months before Tak’s post directed to me. At worst, it was a mistake that came from professional inexperience. It’s not evidence of a “scam.”

On the racism: Anita hates Japan and the Japanese. Here is a quote from a female gamer who criticised her:

Oddly enough, there is no source given for this quote whatsoever. Well, as it just so happened, I actually bothered investigating said quote on my own a while ago, and what I found was that, there’s no actual evidence that it’s real. The oldest source for the quote is some random person’s blogspam about some conference in 2013, but nobody else has ever managed to give any sort of corroborating testimony and there has been zero video or audio footage of the quote itself. People literally just took it at face value and began treating it as though it were real without being given any reason to do so. “Trust but verify”, right?

Moving on, (Many of) the death threats against Anita that she capped were proven fake:

Tak then cites two images as “evidence”. The first is this:

Pretty weak if you ask me. Given the “suspicious” evidence, the screencap seen here reaches the conclusion that if she didn’t fake the threat, she must have logged out and deleted the search for an unexplained reason.

Which is fucking stupid because anyone who knows how to use a web browser would immediately know that there are two other possible explanations:

3) The search was made without being logged in. It could be that she was on a public computer, or it could be that she was using a private browsing session to avoid clogging her browsing history. Then, upon finding the scripted threat, she right-clicked and opened the user’s twitter profile. If you open a new window, there will be no text in any of the search bars.

4) She was already logged onto Twitter in a non-private window, but when she found the threat she right-clicked and opened in a private window. This would both log her out and clear any of the search bars in the new window.

Both of these possibilities would easily explain the “suspicious” evidence, yet for some reason they’re completely overlooked. I wonder what that reason is? I have a feeling it rhymes with “jonfirmation mias.”

Anita is also an idiot:

See, what makes this image funny to me is that this only proves that TotalBiscuit is the idiot here. “But she’s badass!” is not actually a meaningful counterpoint to the damsel in distress trope, the entire reason why the trope is being criticized to begin with is that it removes a female character’s competency within the narrative to act as a motivation for the male hero.

A character that’s badass can still be a damsel in distress if:

The character has no involvement or agency in her own escape.

The rescue isn’t relevant to the plot beyond simply getting the hero to do something.

The capture is not consistent with her previously demonstrated competence.

The entire point of this video is “she says things that are similar to what someone she works with says, therefore puppet.” God forbid that people who share the same views would work together on a project or anything.

It is extremely telling that Tak apparently cannot think of any way to interpret “men have privilege” as anything other than an insult. Pointing out that men have certain social advantages is not a criticism of any individual man or even any individual player: it is a criticism of broader systems of social interactions that are much larger in scope than the individual.

Making just under half a million dollars in revenue total in a single year is very far from lucrative in terms of the game industry. Compare to a major game publisher like Electronic Arts, which made $3.58 billion in revenue in the same year, Activision, which made $4.41 billion, and Ubisoft, which made $1.35 billion. Even  By the standards of any business Feminist Frequency is small potatoes, and compared to virtually every single company whose products they’re criticizing, it makes almost nothing.

If this weren’t Takashi saying this, I would be certain that this would be a parody, because this is literally just two tweets where they used the same word once.

I mean, for fuck’s sake, next you’re going to tell me that because both tweets have the word “the” in them there’s some kind of conspiracy? Jeez.

Whee, more puppetmaster conspiracies! I guess if you ever say something that someone else has said, they must be controlling you? Like, does Tak honestly think people in general don’t have a tendency to make the same arguments/metaphors/statements as those that they agree with? Because that would be fucking absurd. When a socialist says “workers of the world unite”, they’re not being controlled by Karl Marx, they’re saying it because they listened to him and agreed with what he said.

Plus there’s the spectacular missing the point that all else being equal a straight white man will be taken more seriously than someone else. Jonathan McIntosh’s tweet (which I will add was made three years before the other one) was made before his name became a common point of discussion, and had considerably fewer followers than the main Feminist Frequency account. In McIntosh were the face of the FemFreq brand and had comparable public following, this comparison would be valid, but as it stands its a false equivalence.

Eight tweets is nowhere near enough to show that these women are at all representative of the average abusive or critical tweet directed at the FemFreq account, and given that we have literally no reason to believe that anything more than a tiny proportion of all critical and abusive tweets directed at her are from women, there’s no reason to believe this is anything more than a coincidence. But who cares about rationality when you can jump to conclusions with tenuous anecdotal evidence, right?

Ugh, how dare she talk about the problem of how school shooters are often victims of bullying who resort to violence because they've been conditioned to see violence as a legitimate means of responding to emasculation? I mean, next she’s going to be pointing to workplace suicides to push her “not mistreating workers” agenda.

But if we want to talk about actually exploiting tragedies to score cheap points, that’s pretty much exactly what Tak does with this image:

Now, I’m not going to pretend that this particular event isn’t a tragedy, and my condolences go to this child’s family. So that said, I’m not going to be focusing on that.

What I’m going to be focusing on is that there is a clear failure to communicate as to what she is talking about when she says “racism.” Anita is clearly referring to “racism” in the sense of systemic racism, rather than any isolated instance individual prejudice. Referring to racism as a broad system of racial hierarchy does not mean that no white people will suffer from racial discrimination, it means that on a macro scale white people will be placed at the top of that hierarchy. She is not saying that racial discrimination against white people is okay or that it never happens, she is saying that white people in general are higher up the totem pole than other races.

I don’t particularly agree with people who insist that this is the only definition, nor do I agree with people who think that this definition is wrong. There is no such thing as the definition of racism, as both racism as in “systemic racial hierarchy” and racism as in “racial prejudice” have their uses in different contexts. As long as they can be used in those contexts, neither definition is “incorrect.”

However, when someone uses a word according to one definition and you argue against them using another definition, that’s a fallacy of equivocation. You’re arguing against someone saying reverse racism doesn’t exist when they’re using the broad racial hierarchy definition of racism by showing an example of the individual prejudice definition of racism. This is functionally equivalent to someone saying feathers are light because they don’t weigh very much, and someone else responding by saying that feathers aren’t light because some of them are dark.

And McDonalds make billions of dollars while airing T.V. commercials that use fake food. Yet people are still able to evaluate the products being sold reasonably enough to know what they are going to get when they buy a Big Mac.

Advertisements are embellishments by definition. While not turning on a controller may not be realistic, it’s not supposed to be: it’s just supposed to give a general idea of what the product being sold is. While I can maybe understand being mildly annoyed by this, singling out one Kickstarter project for a problem also found in every other advertisement ever makes me question what the real motive is here.

Tak seems to be under the misconception that being a feminist means you have to put up with every individual woman there is regardless of how shitty their opinions are.

I shouldn’t have to explain why this is untrue.

Welp, here we have it folks! Takashi is officially a piece of shit who cites blatantly fake tweets as evidence!

There’s more in Tak’s original post, but since most of them are links to other blogs and since many of them repeat the exact same accusations that have been refuted a thousand times over, I don’t particularly feel the need to waste my time and energy repeating myself. I think it should be clear by now that nearly every accusation Takashi has made is either an unfounded conspiracy, a misrepresentation, a meaningless nitpick, or a flat-out lie.

Profiling Muslim Refugees Isn’t Just Unjust: It’s Bad Security

“The use of profiling by ethnicity or nationality to trigger secondary security screening is a controversial social and political issue. Overlooked is the question of whether such actuarial methods are in fact mathematically justified, even under the most idealized assumptions of completely accurate prior probabilities, and secondary screenings concentrated on the highest-probability individuals. We show here that strong profiling (defined as screening at least in proportion to prior probability) is no more efficient than uniform random sampling of the entire population, because resources are wasted on the repeated screening of higher probability, but innocent, individuals. A mathematically optimal strategy would be “square-root biased sampling,” the geometric mean between strong profiling and uniform sampling, with secondary screenings distributed broadly, although not uniformly, over the population. Square-root biased sampling is a general idea that can be applied whenever a “bell-ringer” event must be found by sampling with replacement, but can be recognized (either with certainty, or with some probability) when seen.”

To put it more simply, anyone who says that only Muslim refugees should be subject to secondary screening when being granted refuge is talking out their ass. Profiling based on probability of threat can only ever be an if it’s done extremely weakly: enough so that to a casual observer it would appear to be entirely random.

Excluding Christian refugees from secondary screening altogether and focusing entirely on Muslims would serve no purpose other than to waste resources screening mostly innocent individuals: no doubt encouraging confirmation bias and bigotry in the screeners as well.

Interesting how many of the supposedly “liberal” anti-SJ bloggers moaning about the petition to ban Donald Trump from the UK are far more concerned with a petition than they are about his horribly Islamophobic policy suggestions, advocacy of torture, use of false statistics to make racist arguments, and sizable fanbase of white supremacists.
