Hello! I'm Lyra!
For the past few days I've been experimenting with injecting custom skinpacks into Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition via the "dev_hdd0/game/BLUS31426/USRDIR/DLC/" folder path. I'm happy to report that after a few days I've gotten custom skinpacks to load on RPCS3 and Real Hardware! Do note this requires CFW and won't work on an unmodded PS3.
I've yet to see this process be documented online while I was researching this and plan on documenting the exact steps I took after I have the chance to test online play on Real Hardware.
Some things to note;
- Real Hardware testing was done on a modded PS3 Super Slim running firmware 4.92 and PS3Hen v3.4.0.
- This process works with Slim Skins and Classic 64x64 Skins.
- While testing on RPCS3 online via RPCN, I was able to see the custom skins without having the skinpack on my end at all. I'm unsure if this is a P2P feature of RPCN or the game itself.
- This requires the latest version of the game, 01.84, and will work differently on the leaked source code version of MC LCE due to that version being MUCH older.
- I also managed to get this working on MC Switch (2017) via Ryubing but the process was far more headache inducing and prone to failure, I was also unable to test multiplayer due to LDN Lan not supporting MC Switch (2017) properly, I will document my process for this too but will not be exploring it further beyond that.
- I will not be providing any files besides the custom skinpacks, I personally ripped my own copy of MC PS3 using my modded PS3.
