Baby’s First Audition
Sorry I took so long, but here is lowdown on my first audition 😬
So the client was a roommate matching website, and the audition was a group interview on our experience signing up and using the site.
Getting to the audition was more concerning to me than the actual audition because it was the first time I would be taking my car out of the city since putting all that money into it for repairs. I’m happy to say that Betty handled it just fine, for the most part. She still has a weird jump between 2nd and 3rd gear but I think that’s part of the repairs I’m already aware of that still need to happen.
It was mostly uneventful, besides getting slightly rear ended on the way up by a white lady in a Subaru at a red light who absolutely refused to make eye contact with us after, but luckily it didn’t damage anything. It’s crazy bc you know if the situation was reversed, she prob would’ve been cussing us out and causing a scene. ah well.
My mom came with me, and drove so I wouldn’t have to worry about parking. We got a little lost at one point and I thought I was going to be late, but I made it just on time. Not that it mattered. It was very chill and informal outside the casting room.
I signed my name and agency on a couple of different clipboards, and one with my account number for the website. There were a few white people already there, girls and dudes, and some asian people walked out after I sat down to wait. When I came out, I saw two Spanish people too. I was the only black person there as far as I could see.
I went in as a group of 5, the last to get picked to go in. I had been fine nerve-wise up until that point, but once I was in the room with the camera and the people intently watching me either with their face or on a laptop screen in the corners, blood started rushing, and my body temp jumped at least 10 degrees instantly. I was afraid I was going to start sweating tbh. It’s one of the most annoying parts of my anxiety. Sweaty palms are my most common symptom, but whole body sweats happen in especially tense situations. I also have a stutter that makes an appearance every. damn. time.
Anyway! It was good and bad that I was first to speak then. I had signed up for the site a few hours before I left for the audition, and only went as far as setting up a profile, bc I had only skimmed the casting notice twice, and was more concerned with getting a slot than the client. my mistake. bc I didn’t actually use the site, so I didn’t have anything to say about it. oops!
I tried my best to bullshit though, and say what I thought about what I had done with the site. Threw some shit about “vibes” in there too. I didn’t say everything I wanted to though, and that’s more what I regret than not using the site fully. I could’ve done better in all respects.
Overall, I was never too nervous bc I didn’t think I’d get it from the beginning. I was unprepared, not having a headshot/resume ready to go, and not exploring the site enough. I’m really glad I got the experience though. I know what to expect in the future, and it gave me a zap of inspiration and validation to keep going.
Callbacks won’t happen until January, so we’ll see.
In the meantime, I need to get my headshot/resume and a go to audition outfit. I met an agency mate who said he hasn’t been on many auditions in a few months, so I think there’s a bit of a dry spell going on. Most of the casting notices I’ve been getting are for hair shows, which I always decline bc I am not letting people mess with my hair willy nilly for $300. But I digress. I’ll be blogging about my modeling experience as it goes. Thanks for reading!
