Since I know I’m not going to start/finish anything else this year, here are my model kit builds from 2022. I was focused mostly on US Air Force kits in celebration of the 75th anniversary. The RCAF Sabre was a kit started last year, but finished in early 2022. The raptor is a Christmas gift. The F-82 Twin Mustang is a brand new kit for 2021/2022 that I had shipped from Ukraine before the war started. The RF-84F Thunderflash is a vintage kit from the 60′s. I worked on a few niche kits this year that took up a lot of time, but I’m happy with the results.

Workbench Wednesday, GMT edition.
I’ve been working on this Modelsvit F-82 Twin Mustang. F-82 was on my list of five kits that are sort of, if I see it in scale, I buy it, no questions.
I came to the conclusion that the reason I have been struggling with so many kits lately, is that I’m getting more an more obscure aircraft, so the kit makers are also more obscure. Modelsvit is a Ukrainian model company, that builds large limited run models. This kit is incredibly well engineered, but engineered in a style in which I’m not used to. Everything went together perfectly in dry-fit, but not so swell when I was gluing. Some of the directions weren’t so clear also, which led to some bad joins for me. I had to sand and fill the heck out of the fuselages, which made the wings not fit correctly. The bottom wing is one piece, great, no problem. But I ended up having to cut about a quarter inch off of the wing base on each upper wing piece, then rebuild the wing root with putty and glue.
Aside from that, I also did some damage to the kit with a burr on my hobby knife that I was unaware of, which ended up scratching gouging the kit on the fuselage sections. Gouged bad enough that I decided to break my own rule about not building black/ dark sea blue models, and I’ll be going for matte black on this to hide the damage. That being said, I’m taking the opportunity to pre-shade, which I’ve never done before. It looks like it worked out ok.
I’ll say this for Modelsvit, these are the best decals I’ve ever used, slid right off and laid down flat as a pancake. Very nice.
