for modern aus, i sometimes like to picture toothless as a savanna cat bc they're the closest to their big cat cousins. they're already big cats themselves, but like big in a "that's a p big housecat!"

There's a new breed of Savannah Cat. No one knows what they're crossed with, though many suspect panther. Y'know. People with a lot of money wanting new exotic pets. Unfortunately, they've bred. There's believed to be a few out there in the suburban forests.
There's a lot of debate over how safe they are, and are basically considered dangerous--a slightly larger, more aggressive form of the domestic Savannah cat. People are to report any sighting of them immediately and to not engage with them.
Naturally, Hiccup doesn't follow these guidelines. Even after accidentally running over the tail of one and then finding himself caught in an ally with the injured and angry animal. They had a rough start.
