Hiccup finds this little stray in the woods, caught in a wire trap. So, obviously he has to save the poor thing! Ignoring his Dad and village's superstitions about black cats...

Poor kitty had to get his leg and part of his tail aputated after getting caught in the trap. :( Don't worry, though! That won't stop him from tearing around Hiccup's house and causing all kinds of trouble for him (/affectionate)! Hiccup makes sure his unexpected new friend gets all the treatment they need - he was the one that set the trap, after all.

Cat toothless!! HTTYD is so so special to me, it is my childhood and an integral part of my person. So of course I had to draw this little guy as a cat! Dragons are basically just cats with wings anyway. Especially Toothless here - to quote my bestie "perfec shayp" lol no adjustment needed

Maybe I'll try and draw Hiccup with him next, who knows :]

Fairy!Hiccup meets Cat!toothless while Toothless is hurt and wants to help him but knows just about every fairy is reasonably terrified of cats, so he tries to help on his own. Fawn catches him sneaking around and decides to help bc she's Fawn and wants to help anything that breathes

Headcanon for modern HTTYD AU with dragons (concocted with Oreramar): Toothless likes sitting on Hiccup's computers, usually squishing his laptops. He also hoards wireless mouses, batting them around, so that Hiccup always carries a USB mouse on his person.

Haha, I can just imagine all the chewed cables Hiccup has as well.  This is kitty!Toothless, yes?  I can picture Hiccup having a usb mouse for his PC and an extra for his bag in case he needs a mouse for his laptop.

My cat is a gray and black Meatball. And right now she's totally doing a Toothless face. After her tuna dinner. You are right, you know? In a modern AU Toothless can only be a black cat, with a Siamese personality and that enjoys riding Hiccup shoulders with a little harness for a round in the neighbor or the trip to the pet-shop to chose his favorite canned food and glare at the dogs.

If, in a modern situation, Toothless was a cat, I can’t really see him with a harness or that domestic XD

I can see him with a little wheel-foot because he lost his foot when Hiccup ran him over with his car. (Toothless was a stray and known a the the local Night Terror who got into everyone’s garbage and attacked dogs and basically had a terrible reputation.  The pound was constantly after him but no one could catch him. And then Hiccup hit him with his car and felt so bad and brought him to the vet and nursed him back to health.. .even though Toothless was hissy at him at first. And Hiccup made him a little foot-wheel and they became best companions AAAAHHHH)
