Chapter 10: Meet the Parents: Speaking with Selwyn

“My father wishes to speak with you,” she said softly.

Jaime Lannister didn’t fear much. He had literally walked through fire and looked into a madman’s eyes. He had held babies in his arms while running down stairs that were crumbling all around him. He had been scarred and damaged… He didn’t fear much… But taking the phone from Brienne to talk to her father right after making love to her all night… that scared him.

It’s not like he hadn’t talked to fathers before. He was quite charming if he did say so himself. Many fathers enjoyed talking to him about his job, sports, cars- which he didn’t know much about but he could fake it with the best of them- and which beer tastes best. He could handle that and did so with as much Lannister suave as he could. Sometimes the fathers still called him to talk and one even came to see him after Aerys.

Jaime was almost certain that it would not happen this time…

He looked into Brienne’s eyes. Her sapphire orbs were shining with apology as she held the phone for him. He glanced down at the device as if it had a snake coiled inside, ready to strike out at him. He swallowed his nerves and gave her as confident a smile as he could and took the phone from her. If his stomach rolled a little while placing it next to his ear, well that was understandable. Brienne had told him of her father’s talent in the ring and he had heard his own father comment on it just this morning.

It was not comfortable to think about it, especially with Brienne standing in front of him in his boxers and half-open shirt looking like a dessert he wanted to devour. His lower body reacted to the sight of her delectable skin and plump lips, even as his brain was screaming at him to stay focused on the problem at hand, asshole! Gathering his courage and pushing all those lustful feelings aside, he spoke with as much respect as possible, “Hello, Mr. Tarth.”
