why can I write a complex conversation between four characters that lasts 9 pages but I can’t hold a real life conversation that lasts more than a minute without embarassing myself.

Portable Headspace

I had an insight earlier.

In the 1700′s people sang, or read books if they had money, and the biggest fandom outside religion was probably the greek revival.

In the 1930′s, people listened to shows like ‘The Shadow’ on the radio, and read their newspapers on trains in the same way commuters focus on their phones.

My dad is not a very social person, and since he’s retired, my mom has worried about this.  He spends most of his time in one room, tinkering with various engineering projects or playing online games, which... is fine as far as it goes.

What I realized was, if an activity like getting out of your one room of personal zen and peace feels like stealing time from yourself, you won’t do it. But personal headspace like that can be mobile.

For years, dad had a very long commute from where we lived all the way to Silicon valley.  He knew that highway better than the cool lab-burn mark on the back of his hands, and he had to be doing something all that time to stay entertained.  I know he listened to radio plays on NPR a lot, but beyond that I’m not sure.

I got to thinking, if he could find a way to make the mental jump from the only place he can relax being that one room he likes best, to having a mobile source of personal headspace like podcasts downloaded to his phone, maybe he’d get out more.

Then I realized that’s not a generation-specific issue. Mom can be kinda... dynamic.  Dad’s a dedicated introvert.  Part of this is on her, worrying when she might not have to because dad works differently than she does, but less than half, I would say.  Dad’s social circle was mostly at work, and when he retired he denned up, hard.

I’m wondering if him not realizing it’s socially acceptable to ignore strangers is a large part of why.

My point is, we have the right to go out into shared spaces if we choose and still prefer our OWN company and/or media to interacting with others.  That’s not a smartphone-kids ‘problem’.  We’re not cheating others of our company, we’re sharing spaces like sidewalks, parks, and train-cars with them.  It’s a totally different kind of social contract, and it’s what humans have apparently always done in one way or another, to keep from killing a large number of our neighbors out of sheer cat-without-a-perch frustration.

Mask Theory

This is a rough outline of a theory I've been working on 

One only shows their true self to themselves(i.e looking in the mirror or being alone in reflecting on one self) and to those whom the individual has shown their true selves to.

A individual's soul language play's an important part in this process 

Individual's wear a mask or facades ( the ego) when they are around people whom they have not revealed their soul to; or to those who are not familiar with their soul language. 

The mask or facade represents what is denied to the true self or what the individual what more/less of.

A individual can wear multiple mask or facade, which, which represents different aspects the individuals see in their selves. Denied or accepted.

If the mask feels it is threaten, it can grow power to defend it self from exposing the true self.
