Eric Church, Sheryl Crow to Headline American Roots Fest

The American Roots Festival has announced its inaugural lineup, and it’s looking super exciting. Headliners Eric Church and Sheryl Crow should please the country-lovin’ fans, while Modest Mouse and The Roots inject a little indie-rock and soul into the mix. Bonus? Eric Church performing both nights! 

The first-ever American Roots Fest is taking place on October 17 and 18 at Walnut Creek Amphitheatre in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tickets go on sale next Monday at 10 am ET at livenation.com.

"The Best Room" by Modest Mouse

       Modest Mouse is pretty good at breaking some bad news. The original release date for their newest studio album was March 3. That date has now been pushed back two more weeks to March 17. To lighten the news, Modest Mouse has given us a new track. In addition to "Lamp Shades on Fire" and  "Coyotes", Modest Mouse has previewed "The Best Room", a simple song to further excite us for Strangers to Ourselves. Take a listen below.

Nirvana Bassist Recorded Guest Part On Modest Mouse Album

Modest Mouse's new album has been in the pipeline for years now, and an interesting tidbit has leaked out. Krist Novoselic of Nirvana has confirmed that he recorded a guest bass part on the album. Check out what he had to say below after the jump.

And so I did a song with Modest Mouse, earlier this year for their new record. It's pretty edgy. I've got my big Gibson bass and a Rat distortion pedal busting out a... this bass riff.

seriously so much fun, my whole body hurt from laughing the next day. every set was great! hans played so many songs i wanted to hear, trey played mostly new songs i wanna hear recordings of! alex always kills it, and he even played change without prompting (i was gonna ask to hear it as a birthday present). abi's set made some people weep and her voice is so powerful. she gave me a tape, buttons, and a pouch as a bday present and sang happy birthday to me at the end of her set <3 so many friends i wanted to see came out, including cj & melissa; who made me cookies and after the music she and cj snuck party hats on everyone and surprised me with blueberry muffins with birthday candles! everyone sang again and i blew 'em out! i was so ecstatic, no one has ever done that for me before <3 hung out and jammed afterward. jon got introduced to the poop improv song game. laughed so fucking hard. it was a great, great night.

friday rolled around and i grabbed coffee for us and made breakfast for the house. before i went to work, i left jake some paper. work is stupid. came home and jake had made a zine with the paper i gave him! and it's really rad, and we went to kinkos before the show and he got it copied/cut and bound them (because i don't own a stapler) at the show between sets. coolest shit ever. i now understand how to get copies made haha, maybe i'll do that for future zines. aaron opened and i missed a tiny bit of it, happy to see his ghosticuffs stickers floating around. jake played next and made some more friends. when dipshit went on i forgot i should probably be bracing myself and got pretty well-acquainted with the brick wall. they were good though. i'm just old. french in van were awesome! a triumphant farewell to matt for a while. so much fun. cavities were so solid, i was also thrilled to see andy, janine, eric, and many other west chester folks! also, andy delivered a present from pete to me(!) since they'd stayed with pete on their kzoo tour date. pictures forthcoming, spoiler: it's a beautiful uke! i love pete! but i digress, i sat it out for kids set because janine had to protect me during cavities set and i didn't want a speaker to fall on me. i heard there was bleeding happening so we stayed in the safety of the living room and dad raf told everyone to chill and end the set by 11. thanks, dad! 

after the show more living room hangs ensued and i signed a lease, motorboat II bound come feb/march. people split off in different directions, eventually kiki, aaron, jake, ariel and i went to columbia diner. good decision. came back and hung out for a bit and giggled a lot if i remember correctly. some of it's kinda hazy, lots of fun and friends. 

saturday morning coffee party ensued at chestnut hill, aaron, kiki, and hans came, ran into raf and gillian and rhianna too. eventually hans had to work and aaron went to band practice. kiki suggested we take a hike so we walked around grubb lake a little bit. it was nice to get out of the city. when we got home jake hung out for a bit before heading to philly. i ended up having to jump his car before he went. i hope our paths cross again! new friend. around that time jon & margaret arrived! we hung out for a bit and looked at the menu for ideas before heading to the see to eat. i got a breakfast burrito and a tea blend of st johns wart, hibiscus flower & raspberry leaf (good decision) and a sparkling grapefruit soda for good measure. after everybody was stuffed i went up to the counter to give them some of my buttons i heard they liked from michelle! i wanted to give 'em for free but they ended up paying me a few bucks and seemed stoked to have them. the seed is rad, and the folks it's run by are very nice, go eat there! we hung out at kiki's after and hand came over and it was a jolly ol time. it was great to meet margaret and it's always good to see jon! cool friends are cool!
