Particle Practice in Modo
This post is just to share some tests i´ve done using particle system in Modo.
Those are quite simple tests. I´m sorry for the low resolution! =)
Better Render Time in Modo
There is a small “trick” in Modo I use sometimes to reduce a bit the render time when using Irradiance Cache.
In the Channels tab in Render Properties there are 2 properties you can change. The improvement is small, but helps. In a quick test I did the time difference was within the range of 4-5%. In another one, the difference was about 33%, but a lot of splotches appeared.
The 2 fields are First Pre-Pass Spacing and Last Pre-Pass Spacing, which by default are 32 and 4, meaning you´ll have 4 pre-passes: 32, 16, 8 and 4.
If you change the first to 16 or the last to 8 you´ll have: 16, 8, 4 or, 32, 16, 8, meaning you´ll have 3 pre-passes and a lower pre-pass time.
You can play with those numbers, but be careful because it could bring some splotches and/or noise depending on the size of your image.
In another test, using only 2 pre-passes the render time got WAY longer. In the end, problably only 3 pre-passes should be ideal.
