Sims 2 Tutorial: u-shaped modular stairs on foundation
Okay, this is extremely off topic for me, but since I started playing the Sims again last night I've been playing around with modular stairs and individual staircase types. (yes, I'm going to build Xavier Mansion ^^)
So here's a little tutorial because I couldn't find a proper one anywhere and had to figure this out by myself.
1. Build a 6x5 foundation and on top a 2-storey room. Place a modular foundation in the right corner of the ground floor as shown in the pic.
Create two 2x2 rooms in the two left corners (only 1 storey) as shown in the pic. Place floor tiles of your liking.
2. Outside, build a stair into the ground. This is to determine the exact depth. Remove the stair again.
3. Bring up the cheat box and enter "boolprop constrainfloorelevation false". Level the ground as shown in the pic (this is beneath the corner/room of the middle landing). Now that room has sunken by 4 units.
4. Now set the cheat to "true" again and place your stairs.
5. Now go to the other side of your staircase and build a foundation all around. You will notice that you cannot build a foundation up to 1 square next to the middle landing where the walls and foundations look all messed up. No worries, we'll fix this.
6. Enter the cheat again and level as shown. Important: do NOT level further towards the stairs than shown or you'll mess up your reference point on the middle landing. Do this on both sides of the staircase.
7. Now level the middle landing as shown. TUrn the cheat to "true" again.
8. Now you can cover up the gap with floor tiles.
9. Go to the front again and remove some of the walls, so you get a better look into your staircase. Still something messy there. We'll fix it by entering the cheat again, setting it to "false". Then it's basically the same as steps 6-8.
10. It's just ever so slightly tricky because when you level the middle platform you have to drag it across the upper platform as well, so be careful just to level one row of tiles there and then level the upper platform back.
11. As a final step go to the upper floor and level the walls as show.
12. Et voilà. Now you can decorate and build around your staircase as you please. Furthermore, you'll also be able to build a basement beneath it. Just the one wall around the middle platform is not good for using wallpapers with patterns or placing windows, but aside from that you can build just whatever you like.
