When did you start watching Glee?
Whenever it first aired in the UK – think it was around January 2010.
What first drew you to it?
The songs. The humour. Will & Emma. But mostly Emma’s blowjob joke in Showmance - genius
This show is full of so many characters, which means so many different ships, canon or not. Why Will and Emma?
What made them stand out from the rest? Apart from the fact that Matthew Morrison isn’t exactly hard on the eyes, like a lot of people have already said, I also identified with Emma so much. Same hair, same age, same love of dresses & skirts, same OCD tendancies (mine have nothing to do with cleaning though) and the same inappropriate feelings for an unavailable work colleague. The fact they’re an adult couple makes a big difference too – the teen ships are too flimsy to bother with. Also, the Chalkdust scene is easily one of the greatest I’ve seen on TV – that got me hook, line and sinker into becoming slightly obsessed with them. I was also slightly taken in with the idea that the writers were obviously trying to get you to ship a couple where the guy was thinking about leaving his pregnant wife (or at least he thought she was)– not that often you see a TV show making you root for the ‘immoral’ choice.
Do you have any other ships on the show?
Not really – thought Finchel was OK for S1 then got very bored, very quickly with them from S2 onwards.
Sue/Puck – the original Suck. Why they never followed on from that moment in Acafellas is beyond me, it could have been comedy gold. Otherwise I’d go for a bit of Biggins (Beiste/Figgins)
Let's play devil's advocate by giving us an unpopular opinion.
Got plenty of them! 1) Carl acted liked a total gentleman all the way through S2 and did nothing wrong – he just fell for a woman who was in love with someone else. 2) Wemma got engaged too quickly – they were only ‘together’ for 9 epsiodes before Yes/No. I wanted more focus and angst on getting the relationship settled with more solid foundations before they took that step. 3) I don’t want a Wemma baby til at least the end of S4 – they need time to just be a couple and enjoy their own company without any other complications such as dirty nappies etc. The only sleepless nights they should be having should be coming from the endless sex they need to have.
They say that no one hates Glee more than Glee fans, how do you feel about that?
On the one hand yes – but there’s a fine line between love & hate and to have that level of passion about a program, even if it’s a negative emotion, means that it’s having some kind of effect on you. On the other hand, I’ve seen tweets from non-Glee people I follow on twitter and yup, they really do hate it too.
Homeless Brent or Shirtless Figgins?
Shirtless Figgins hands down. Why he hasn’t got his own spin-off show yet is beyond me. FIGGINS FOR EVERY EPISODE!
Favorite season: S1 – for the will they/won’t they, angsty Wemma-ness
Favorite episode: Yes/No just edges it but only cus I never bother with the last 3 minutes and the stupid Finchel proposal. Showmance still gives me goosebumps with the chalkdust scene though. Random Unpopular Opinion – Special Education was a bloody brilliant episode too.
Favorite song: it changes regularly – currently Tongue-tied
Favorite duet: I Feel Pretty/Unpretty
Favorite group song: Tongue-tied or Dog Days Are Over (Random Unpopular Opinion 2 - We Are Young was a total ripoff of the Dogs Days performance and nowhere near as good. I can’t see why everyone keeps banging on about it)
Do you have a line/scene that no matter how many times you see it, it makes you laugh? If so, what is it?
A song/artist you wish they'd do?
Either Scissor Sisters because it could end up being the campest thing on TV or Kylie – think Jayma’s voice in particular would suit her songs. I’ve loved Kylie for 25 years – my head may explode from the amazingness if Glee ever did cover her. They’ve already done my all-time favourite though (Like A Prayer) so can’t ask for much more really.
Cookies everytime. They’re the nearest thing to cake.
Tina Fey should play Artie's mother? Yes or yes?
HELL YES!!!!! Why has this not been done yet?! It’s a bloody obvious setup isn’t it?! Although I thought the same thing for Susan Sarandon being Emma’s mum and look how that turned out. I’m up for anything that gives Artie more screentime though – he’s another massively under-used character.
There are over 70,000 Glee stories on Fanfiction.net. Wemma stories don't even make up 2% of that number. Even on Tumblr we make up a very small percentage of the Glee fandom. A lot of people don't even acknowledge our existence. Why do you think this fandom is so small compared to others on the show?
The core audience of the show is teens and so the main ships will be the ones that involve characters of that age-group as they are the ones that will be identified with the most. The better way of looking at it though is that we are the elite group – the ones who can spot the most realistic, feasible and long-lasting ship. Who wants to be part of the crowd when you can be something different and special ;-) Wemma-loving is an exclusive past-time and I’m proud to be part of that club!
Are you the author to any Wemma fan fiction?
I’d love to announce I’m actually Sierra-Jae at this point cus she’s pretty much the Queen of Wemma fanfiction, but sadly no. I do have a few stories on there mind you.
Favorite stories/authors?
Like I said Sierra-Jae is simply incredible (Letters From a Lost Lover being particularly amazing), but I also think rjayne, Aggie23 and Ginagloid write some great stuff. VLegal on LiveJournal deserves a special mention but she hasn’t wrote anything for a while cus she’s busy *sniff*
Something you'd like to see happen with Will and Emma on the show, big or small.
Sex and angst. I loves me some smut and I loves me some angst. Seriously though, I feel that some parts of their relationship have been brushed over, so I want to see Emma dealing with her OCD more. I also want a massive argument between them cus sometimes I get the feeling they’re not always as honest as they could be about what they want, as neither of them like conflict and would rather paper over stuff than deal with it. This would all end with lots of hot, make-up sex though. Oh and Will & Emma’s parents meeting up would be chuffing hilarious, but I think we’re all agreed on that right? Otherwise, I’ll just take any Wemma I can get in any shape or form, cus it’s never enough.
Your description of the perfect Wemma baby.
It could have green hair, three eyes, and psychotic tendancies but it’d still be perfect – it’s a Wemma baby after all.
If Emma gave you a pamphlet, what would it say?
Do you really need to buy a new dress or pair of shoes? (inside – Yes you do! Just buy another wardrobe if you’re running out of storage)
If you had any suggestions you could give the writers, what would it be?
SHITLOADS MORE WEMMA – obviously. On a serious note, Glee has rightly focused on issues such as homophobia, religion, teen sexuality, and used the show to get people talking and accepting that everyone is equal. Mental health is one of the last taboos in society because people are afraid to talk about it. They should use Emma’s OCD, combined with her loveable character, to show that mental illness affects are large number of people and isn’t really anything to be scared of – talking about it can only help. I can’t think of any other shows where this has been a topic that has been discussed like this and Glee would be a true groundbreaker in this respect. Plus it would give Jayma the chance to act her arse off which we all know she could do with ease, and walk away with that Emmy. Apart from that, I’d like to see them ditch the kids, switch channels to HBO and pretty much turn Glee into the Will & Emma sex show. We’re all winners then.
*Seriously, how great is vlegal's Sensory Deprivation? I've been dying at not getting the rest of that story.
