Moksi
Future House Music with Malaa & Moksi @ Melkweg Amsterdam 01-03-2019
So last week I finally got the chance to see Malaa live! I’ve been a huge fan of his dark/underground sound for a while now, so when I saw that he would come to Amsterdam, I just had to go. And of course, with Moksi on the line-up as well, there was no chance I was missing this show. Future House Music came up with the following line-up for the show:
Since pre-drinking took a little long than expected, we missed the first set by Robby East. Luckily, he would also be closing the evening, so we could still see him play. When we arrived, it was Sagan behind the decks. To be honest, I had never heard of this guy before. However, that didn’t mean I disliked his music. His set wasn’t just a general warm-up set before the headliners of the evening, it was a great set that also could’ve featured as a headliner. The only downside for me personally was the fact that Sagan’s style doesn’t exactly fit with the Malaa and Moksi sound. But still, I really enjoyed his set!
After Sagan, Mr. Malaa stepped behind the decks. And let me start by saying that his set was fucking awesome. It was the typical dark/underground Malaa sound that I expected, and it was amazing to hear it live for the first time. But would I say that Malaa blew me away with his performance? Definitely not. I know it is part of the whole Malaa character to look tough and shit, but for me it didn’t create the awesome vibe I hoped for. It created a distance between Malaa and the audience, which was a real shame, since his set was great. But I guess that it is just part of who (and what) Malaa is.
Luckily the little disappointment I felt was immediately blown away by the boys who never disappoint: Moksi baby! As usual, their set was filled with the classic Moksi sound, that makes you wanna dance all night long. Moksi literally never fails to amaze me, so this night was no exception. They played some dope switch-ups and even teased some new Moksi shit. I’ll make sure to see them many more times during the upcoming festival season!
To close the evening, Robby East got on stage. Just like Sagan, I hadn’t heard of this guy before. Even though the evening had been long, and I was really fucking tired, his set managed to give me a new energy boost. With a great set filled with Electro & House, his style definitely had a better connection to the headliners than Sagan’s. Robby East truly gave the evening the end it deserved to have.
