coming off anon because i feel a little braver but i have no idea where to put this. for your consideration: we know that the mold gives you access to the memories of other mold users so like,,; what if that applied to language too. ethan not knowing he’s speaking romanian while he’s in the village because he automatically responds in the language someone speaks to him with (if the mold knows it) & duke deciding to fuck with him test this out by cycling through all the languages he knows when he’s talking to him (bc he’s obviously either well travelled or just some sort of fae creature thing or both). duke greeting him in romanian when he’s outside the castle & ethan responding perfectly and not noticing when duke switches to like…. german or spanish or italian or whatever every other time he speaks 😭 idk the idea just cracks me up a lot

and it actually answers something i’ve laughed about forever, “oh yes, all these villagers in Romania speak perfect American English.” but no! they don’t! Ethan just speaks Romanian without realising it!
