you asked me and now i'm curious as to what your answer is: do you feel like your art really reflects who you are as a person? :o
I have to agree with you on the subconscious part, I think to some degree every persons art has to! But as for my own feelings on the matter…
No, not really honestly. I’m sure most artists could say this, but I have an incredibly vivid imagination, and the way I can see things in my head…my main art goal is to get as close as possible to portraying them that way. I see things, and feel things, very vividly, dense in colors and saturation and usually darker tones, lots of heavy shading, captured in stills that convey the emotions I feel when it comes to me.
I’ve seen art that I feel does that for other artists, a good example would actually be the one piece you did with Gaster and Asgore in the golden flowers! When I see art like that, it sometimes just…strikes me, and I hope that the artist feels they’ve managed to capture what they were trying to, and I am seeing it as closely to that as I can being someone different. Like capturing a picture of your own thoughts or feelings, however briefly. It’s how I feel Vincent Van Gogh’s work often makes others feel, like my mom. He’s one of her favorite artists because of the way his work seems to just…capture something about him, about his mind and his heart.
I will confess, I have made things, usually just sketchy vent art, that I feel have genuinely managed to capture my feelings in that moment, and even if it’s not explainably “good” work, I am usually proud of it, just because of how it seems to express…me, in that moment. And I hope one day I will be able to do that more regularly, and more purposefully!
