Dumbledore was said to have shown up seconds after Harry beats Moldy which means if they had just trusted that McGonagall was going to call Dumbledore back then Toady-Moldy-Voldy and Squeels-like-a-little-girl-Quirrell would have been standing there yelling at each other when Dumbledore strolled in and bim-bam! Stones fine Flammel and his wife get to keep living, Moldymort and Squirrell are defeated, and three young first years remain trauma free for one single Hogwarts year.
