We Indians have an expertise in making random stories out of a rumor, sensationalizing it, and making it look so realistic that the person almost turns the culprit. And while somebody is trying to stand up for the rights, we make sure he/she is dragged so low to the level that it proves to be a roller coaster fun for us. Another bug bite in Indians is, “Beta, kisiko mat bolna, (chaar) log kya sochenge”, although there are more than chaar involved in the skill mentioned in the first line. Duplicity takes a peak, when we don’t allow anybody standing up for their rights to move ahead, or rather help, but talk about other biggy-wiggies that we do, which are obviously 95% exaggerated.
INHUMANES TURNED GURUS, AND THEIR “MUCH REQUIRED” SAY!
Home Minister of Chhattisgarh Ramsevak Paikra- Such incidents do not happen deliberately. These kinds of incidents happen accidentally
Former Chhattisgarh Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar- Harm can come on a person if the stars are in adverse positions. We have no answer to this, only an astrologer can predict rape.
Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav- Boys and girls love each other, later they have differences and the girl goes and gives a statement that she has been raped. And then the poor fellows are sentenced to death. Should rape cases lead to hanging? Boys are boys, they make mistakes.
BJP veteran leader Babulal Gaur- Rape is a social crime which depends on men and women. Sometimes it is right, sometimes it is wrong. Until there is a complaint, nothing can happen. Unless the person wants, no one can dare touch her. The item numbers in films create a bad environment. Also foreign culture is not good for India. Women in foreign countries wear jeans and t-shirts, dance with other men and even drink liquor, but that is their culture. It is good for them, but not for India, where only our traditions and culture are ok. Let women consider what is good and bad for them.
Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav advised reporters to look up Google to see that his state was not the only Indian state where rapes happened.
Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav - Vulgarity, obscenity and violence shown on TV channels is to blame for the multiple incidents of rape and assault in UP. In many places, when the relationship between girls and boys come out in open, it is termed as rape.
SP leader Abu Asim Azmi- If you keep petrol and fire together then it will burn. There should be a law to ensure that there should be no ‘nangapan’ (nudity). Those who wear less clothes should also be banned. Fashion and nudity are responsible for the current situation in India. And in rural India, girls don’t go searching out for boyfriends. I support death penalty for the Delhi rapists but there should also be a law that women should not wear less clothes and roam around with boys who are not their relatives. What is the need for roaming at night with men who are not relatives? This should be stopped.
Leader of khap panchayat of Haryana Jitendar Chattar - To my understanding, consumption of fast food contributes to such incidents. Chowmein leads to hormonal imbalance evoking an urge to indulge in such acts.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ramesh Bais- The rape of grown up girls and women might be understandable, but if someone does this to an infant, it is a heinous crime and the offenders should be hanged.
Puducherry Education Minister T Thiagarajan- Girls should wear overcoats so that men are not driven mad with lust. The meeting of ministers has resolved to introduce overcoats for girl students, operate special buses for them and ban mobile phones in schools. Our government is committed to ensuring safety of women, particularly girl students.
Manohar Lal Sharma, a lawyer who represented three of the Delhi gangrape accused- The male companion of the murdered 23-year-old was wholly responsible for the incident as the unmarried couple should not have been on the streets at night. Until today I have not seen a single incident or example of rape with a respected lady. Even an underworld don would not like to touch a girl with respect.
Self-proclaimed godman Asaram Bapu - The Delhi gangrape victim should have taken God’s name and could have held the hand of one of the men and said ‘I consider you as my brother’, and should have said to the other two ‘brother I am helpless, you are my brother, my religious brother.’ In other words, if she had begged for forgiveness and cited the fraternity of man and called to God for help, all would have been well.
Rajasthan BJP leader Banwari Lal Singhal- Ban skirts as uniform in schools. The intention of this demand is to keep girl students away from men’s lustful gazes and for their comfort in hot and cold weather conditions. Skirts should be replaced by trousers or salwar kameez.
SUCH A DISGRACE!! Doesn't matter which party they come from, or who they are, but when such men who can influence masses at large, have words like this to say.
Coming back to Preity, something similar happened! Well, it’s sort of a ritual now. So, yes, there were people who commented on her personal life as if they've handled her and her life very dutifully, people who posed as lawyers and agony aunts and uncles, saying if what Ness did was right/wrong and how, then there were our prestigious news blogs and reports providing news about everything from Preity’s previous affairs to her flop filmy career, but yeah, as usual nothing about the real reporting in connect to the actual case. And twitterverse already knows how Times Now has a knack of getting all lame hashtags WRONG, it transparently showcased its skills in this case too, by hash-tagging #PreityNessMess.Yes, some people carried forward the hashtag by providing their Non-required opinions, and made it trend, while some who know had read what "journalism" actually means in various dictionaries, tweeted. Ashish Shakya, and Tanmay Bhat, both stand up comedians in their tweets said, "#PrietyNessMess, because class is something they don't teach at journalism school." and "Good to see that in the midst of all this the media hasn't forgotten it's duty of running c****ya hashtags. #PreityNessMess" respectively.
Until one day, Harrish Iyer who is an Equal Rights Activist, posted a status about the actress without mentioning her name. And the information he shared, I am sure many like me were unaware of. Thanks to our certain media who are too much into mending Bollywood relationships and creating DPs for our stars while they are at dinners.
So what happened next? I dug out from Google, and found a chunk of information which read, ‘Threatened by the underworld- Unlike most of her colleagues in the film industry who succumb to the pressure of the underworld, actor Preity Zinta stood out in that respect and headed straight to the courts after she was threatened by the underworld. It all started when Preity received threatening calls from the underworld while she was shooting for the film 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke; in 2000. Zinta told the sessions court in Mumbai that she received a call from a man who said, "Main bhai ka aadmi Razak bol raha hoon aur mujhe 50 lakh chahiye". The producers of the film Bharat Shah and Nazim Rizvi had been charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). While the brave Zinta girl was lauded for her guts, Preity surely had to go through a lot and can be easily termed as the biggest low of her life.’

SCENE: The actress had received threatening calls from the underworld while she was shooting for the film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke in 2000. Preity told the session’s court in Mumbai that she received a call from a man who said, "Main bhai ka aadmi Razak bol raha hoon aur mujhe 50 lakh chahiye." She was told that she would have to bear the consequences if she did not pay up. And Preity was the first film personality to have supported the prosecution in the Bharat Shah case. Actors Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan, producer-director Rakesh Roshan, directors Sanjay Gupta, Mahesh Manjrekar and Anees Bazmee, producers Harish Sughand, Ratan Jain, Ali Morani and Mohammed Morani had all turned hostile and retracted their earlier statements.
Below is a small piece from Preity Zinta herself that she posted on Facebook on June 14th, and this one is sure to touch your hearts, and more than that, shake your brain to make it work.
“From my heart….
I may not be super wealthy and powerful but i have truth by my side and I’ve worked very hard all my life and tried to earn respect for myself as a self made professional. It saddens me that no one at work or around ever stood up for me in the past when i was abused and insulted publicly. This time i was left with no option but to take this stern step as this incident happened in front of way too many people.
Sometimes we are so ashamed and humiliated that we fool ourselves to believe that no one saw what happened. Everyone always looks away as if they don't exist or then we don’t exist. People are embarrassed just enough to look away, but not too embarrassed to intervene.
Ironically what happened at Wankhade is being diluted by every other fabricated story about my character except the truth of what happened. I'm sure the witnesses will speak the truth and i trust and believe that the police will do their job fairly and quickly.
No woman likes to be involved in a controversy like this which makes her open and vulnerable for all to take a dig at. I have worked for over 15 years in the film industry and have never been subject to such humiliating behaviour and for that i really want to thank all the men that worked with me. Through all our highs and lows my head was always held high.
Every human being has a limit to how much they can take ; some of us foolishly call it strength and try to look ahead focusing on the positives of work and life. All these years i have never said anything about him in the media but now i have no choice.
I humbly request the media and my supporters to pls focus on the issue and the incident that happened in Wankade and not turn this and me into a TV soap. This is not easy for me and my intention is not to harm anyone but simply to protect myself and to stand up for myself. I don’t want any sympathy from anyone but i will sincerely appreciate it if people do not try to take away my dignity in the process of my fight for respect at my workplace. I think after all these years i deserve it and I’m not asking for too much.
