meta + draco taking scorpius to king's cross for the first time.
throughout the years following scorpius’ birth, the topic of whether or not he would attend hogwarts would frequently come up between astoria and draco. the pair were always concerned about their son’s safety. sure, the war had been over for years and there hadn’t been any real threats of new uprisings of dark wizards. however, draco knew that the malfoy name came with a price. it was tainted now that everyone knew of their association with the dark lord.
despite years of keeping a low profile with his family and raising their son to be tolerant and kind, none of those things would matter when it comes down to how others outside of their family viewed the malfoys. the last thing draco wanted was for his son to become a target at hogwarts just because of his family’s name. for years, draco and astoria considered their options when it came to other wizarding schools. beauxbatons and mahoutoko were their top two choices at the time.
beauxbatons wasn’t as close to home as hogwarts, but it wasn’t nearly as far as durmstrang. plus, it was a school they felt that scorpius could thrive in since draco had already planned on teaching his son french anyways. as for mahoutoko, even though it’s the furthest from home, draco felt it would be a good opportunity for scorpius to surround himself with other wizards of asian descent. like with any other major decision, both schools had their pros and cons.
as scorpius grew older though, he expressed interest in going to the same school that his parents went to. to scorpius’ young, childlike mind, the thought of attending the same school his parents did was exciting. he would be getting to experience everything that was wonderful about hogwarts. as it came closer to his eleventh birthday, they ultimately left the choice up to scorpius. considering he inherited the same stubbornness as his father, there was no changing scorpius’ mind.
when it finally came to the day they would be taking scorpius to king’s cross, draco was even more of a nervous wreck. it was to the point where astoria had to keep a hand on his shoulder or arm the entire time just to quell his nerves. seeing the familiar faces of his old schoolmates with their own children had an eye-opening affect on him. no one batted an eye at the fact that draco was there with his family. everyone was only concerned about their own children. despite what his previous thoughts were, the past seemed to truly be behind everyone.
after both draco and astoria both hugged scorpius and said their goodbyes, they waved at him as he boarded the train and waved a final time as they saw him through the window of one of the carriages. as they stood on the platform, watching the train depart, it was then that draco’s nerves finally settled. he knew then that hogwarts was indeed the best decision for scorpius.
