(Read review of critical role ep 27) dude, your missing the point, she acknowledge it's shitty that he did that, but she also acknowledge that he didn't make them feel shitty about it that he didn't inconvenience didn't rob him blind. at best he was a comedic story that people can look back with both slight annoyance yet regard it with happiness and not sadness.

Had to go back and read my rewatch to see what this was referring to.

Quickly - I am not "missing the point", because this is all my subjective opinion and we can take away different things from the same scene.

Okay, with that said.

I'm not arguing that Beau didn't say that what Molly did was shitty. She does say that, and clearly I fully agree. The point that I disagree with is when she said that he was making people feel good and special, and that makes it him leaving every town better than he found it.

Even with what you say, "at best he was a comedic story that people can look back with both slight annoyance yet regard it with happiness and not sadness". I agree! That's AT BEST. The narrative completely ignores the "at worst" scenarios. At worst - people lost their jobs because they didn't entertain the 'royalty' enough. At worst - kids went hungry because the 'royalty' didn't pay for their stay and so the employees lost their salary. At worst - someone had to stay outside in a cold wet night and died because of it because the 'royalty' took up the entire tavern. At worst, at worst.

Now, do I think it's as extreme as that? No, absolutely not. But Molly's whole thing has become "leave every place better than you found it". Constantly. That's his 'thing'. And I fully disagree with his statement that he was able to do it. It's a good thought and one I hope people keep to! But I don't believe Molly did. Because he never really checked to see the impact that he actually ended up having, because for the most part, it felt to me like he never actually cared. And here is a grieving Beau talking about how Molly absolutely left every town better than he found it, because she tried to make every town worse.

It's a great moment for her and a huge impetus for her change in character direction, so I'm glad it happened!

So there’s that post going around of the Sherlock characters as beds -

It’s hilarious - I was loving the crap out of it, each new picture better and better, how can these be so perfect, instant fandom classic right? - until

Instantly my heart dropped.  The fun was gone.

Why?  Why dump on Molly?  In a post that’s celebrating all the other characters.  To what purpose?  To what benefit?

Why include something nasty in a general fandom post?

I know no real harm was intended - the poster is a jlocker but *not* a hater - and it’s meant as a joke.  But it’s not really funny, to me.  Why is Molly the only one with a single bed?  Why not Greg?  Mrs. Hudson?  And what makes that pitiable/funny/acceptable?

Now I’ll grant you - I’m being overly sensitive.

I’m overly sensitive because I’m a big fan of Molly Hooper and there’s nothing “poor” about her.  I’m overly sensitive because the poster is a jlocker - NOT a hater, it must be emphasized - and there’s dark history between these ships so it tweaks.  I’m overly sensitive because I remember - and am still - seeing my friends attacked and getting trashed myself for liking her.  So when someone throws out a comment like this, all this shit gets stirred up for me.  

But it’s upsetting also because this happens a lot.  Casual insults or deliberate wank in content that would otherwise appeal to the whole fandom.

Molly’s not the only one who gets slammed.  Irene’s a target.  The most vicious comments are reserved for Mary.  It’s almost a compulsion to include these sorts of asides on posts with general content.  

Again - why?

All you’ve done is alienated that character’s fanbase.  All you’ve done is shut out an entire section of the fandom.  All you’ve done is piss off fans who would otherwise laugh and Like and reblog your post.  

It’s just kind of baffling to me, that there is this casual acceptance of nasty content.  That some people don’t have an issue with excluding fans of these characters, that others don’t even realize they’re doing it, instead of creating content for everyone to enjoy.  

(I have thoughts on the misogyny inherent, but that’s another post.)  

The post didn’t have to slag Molly. It’s not difficult to make this inclusive and still be funny.  There are many other choices:

Any one of these would have had me laughing and reblogging and adding to the fun. Or even just the original picture without the comment would have been fine.  But instead I was put off and pissed off.  And I’ve blocked the post so I don’t get pissed off again.  Because I come here to celebrate Sherlock and *all* of the characters.  I come here to laugh and be amazed by the insane creativity in the fandom and to share it with all of you.  

It’s just a shame that there’s so little in the fandom for *everyone.*
