thank you because you just made my weekend. should be noted that this is strictly musical related since the movie version of everyone’s characters are kind of way different. also this is just basically a big rambly headcanon because i’m too lazy to actually write a fic right now but if people want it then i may be motivated
so we start off with they both felt full wrath of regina and her abuse. i feel like gretchen endured a lot of regina’s bullshit and janis could really help her sort through it all. most importantly janis could really help gretchen find her confidence and help her be herself, the real her which i don’t know if gretchen ever really had
scenario: when cady brings the groups together to heal (because you know cady fucking would try and patch everything up between her friends) janis reluctantly sits with them and somehow ends up next to gretchen and she’s just utterly amused by the things gretch says (ngl that line about feeling like an iphone janis would love) and she slowly helps build up her confidence (she knows it has to be slow because she knows how regina’s put downs can be). janis helps her grow into her own and let her know when she’s being too clingy, too much, too plastic and is someone sturdy and real she can lean on, someone anti regina that gretchen needs
she hangs out with gretchen more and more on their own (sometimes damian is there, sometimes karen, sometimes the four of them but more and more just her and gretch) she does art and gretchen watches and ‘aws’ at how nice janis is doing, constantly instagramming progress of said art. they have lunch over spilled paint and eat off each other’s plates. janis hands gretchen a brush and canvas of her own when she gets to be too annoying (because she can, she’s gretchen she can’t really help it and janis isn’t used to that level of intensity) and janis finishes her painting to see gretchen working hard on hers (of course trying to not get paint on her clothes but has it on her face and arms) and it’s not really anything except splotches of color but janis has to admit that gretchen has an eye for it, good color composition and it’s interesting and when gretch is done janis hangs it in her studio and gretchen beams she is so proud that it’s there and janis boosts her even more telling her she’s a natural. it becomes a regular thing for the two of them
i do feel like they’d be the couple that would be like dating before they knew they were dating? like damian making comments about gretchen being janis’ girlfriend and janis is just like ???? what are you talking about she’s a friend? and being surprised that it was so easy to call gretchen wieners a friend but also she kind of wishes damian was right (of course he knows and he just smiles) but karen being the one to finally push them together with her ever wild and random wisdom. just kind of the three of them hanging out and studying with damian, gretchen and janis on the couch, gretchen’s legs thrown over janis’ lap, and karen just looks at them and smiles and tells them she’s happy they’re finally going out and they look at each like ‘oh... yeah i guess we are’ and that’s that
