Audi R8 V10 and a Bimmer
As a completely experimental modification, my father and I wanted to convert my standard e92 hood into an M3 look alike. E92 M3s have a 2 inch longer hood, so these hoods wouldn't fit on my car. We had an extra M3 hood scoop/bump laying around as well as the holes for vents. We decided to test our craftsman ship by trying to bond the aluminum M3 part to the standard e92 hood. It look cutting, bonding and a whole lot of sanding before we were ready to paint it. Painting the hood only came out only alright. The paint gun wasn’t fanning out very evenly and we were in a dusty environment. We ended up with some dust as well a a little hair stuck in the paint/clear coat. However, the conversion of the hood turned out great. Also you can see the final product of the custom work on the headlights we did with the angel eyes finally installed. I will post more pics later on with better angles, less dust on the car, and the vents installed in the holes!
Build Update Bumper and Lip Edition:\
As the car took front end damage before we bought it, I needed to get a new bumper. I got an Mtech pre Lci bumper. These are decently hard to find and this one was painted black and had a protective bra on it. I spent a few hours removing the bra as well as many more sanding the bumper to get it ready for paint.
Now time for the lip…I bought the lip off of ebay and it came unpainted. I chose this one because it was cheap and rounded, which fits the body lines in the front quite well. After sanding the lip down as well, we painted the bumper and lip. I decided to go with the body color of Monaco Blue on the bumper, the fender reflectors (you’d never see them if i didn’t mention them), and the lip to keep a uniform look.
After painting, it was time for a clear coat. As my first time using a paint gun, I over applied the clear in one section of the lip/splitter causing it to run. This can be seen in the first two pics. I sanded this down first with a razor blade then paper. After re-clearing, everything turned out fine and it isn’t even noticeable. The last picture is my car almost completely finished sitting at service. The car developed a steering lock as result of low voltage from the battery as well as a few other variables. I will open this whole can of worms in another post.
