OK, so Preface by saying there is 0% evidence for it... 0.03% evidence for it- but imagine for a sec
Zeetha is the only royal we've seen. Zeetha has nifty little sparkwork jewelry that imitate her face, even over huge distances. Let's suppose those two things are related!
That could mean that Klaus and is supposed to have some, and depending on when they're made, maybe even some matched to Gil exist!
And Zeetha decided the thing to do was leave them in the hands of her lover. Which, social implications for one, but also she presumably knew that separation from her person wouldn't ruin them or something
and we now know that Zantabraxus wasn't just curious about Europa- Zeetha was going to try and find Klaus and/or Gil. Deliberately.
but they hadn't seen either of them since Klaus ran off- apparently with Gil as a babe in arms- so why would they even trust they were alive?? That Zeetha would have a clue even if she came across them?? If Gil doesn't remember Zanta, I doubt Zeetha remembers Klaus!
and they may have made understandably erroneous assumptions that the Wulfenbach barony was still a barony and as such limited to search, or assumed wrongly that Europa as a whole wasn't all that much bigger than a hidden kingdom (though. if it does turn out to be on Mars, it could be a Lot Bigger than that would usually imply)
What if they had specific reason to think Zeetha would know Klaus, and that he wasn't doing altogether well, and that the face diadem would continue mimicking her face even with half a continent between her and it?
What if, when Klaus left. He deliberately stripped off his jewelry and regalia, both as a symbol of abdicating his position and that he doesn't intend to come back. He's a fairly responsible type of guy- He might have done that.
and if he did do that, then it's possible it demonstrated the astonishing range of the mimic effect. Zeetha might have some idea of the structure of his face and how he wears it (a frown. pretty much always), and would know that the diadem she gave Higgs would be a live feed of her face, and could use it as a limited communication!
Which means that for 15 years, Zanta has had the ability to get an occasional hint of how her husband, her Zumil, is doing emotionally and physically. and for 15 years the answer was "sad, angry, frustrated, bored, and occasionally beat up" with no way to follow him and box his ears for running off and then daring to fare poorly! So naturally, when the expedition found them- it was an opportunity she'd been itching for!
