Yes they’re blue berries, no they’re not blueberries. Dwarf Mondo Grass (ophiopogon japonicus) 'Kyoto Dwarf', dwarf lilyturf, mondograss, fountainplant, monkeygrass, it’s native to China, India, Japan, and Vietnam. I really like the dwarf form as it's much neater than full sized Mondo grass. Propagate by division and be careful with fertaliser which can burn it. Usually I top dress or mulch my topiary with gravel or moss or some such. Occasionally I will underplant, but not often. I do however, love the look of this assembly of topiaries some of which have a handsome skirt of mondo grass circling at the base. I may have to give this a go. What do you think?
