Musing about green things in life
Why the rush on green things?
As a recent hobbyist of plants and growing things, I've decided to put on paper a few observations that might have recently been floating around in your mind as well.
What is it about indoor plants that relaxes you?
Do you wonder why they are so popular?
What has happened to make plant owners go crazy and constantly find joy in getting plants?
Literally from day 1 (and even before that) our life is characterized by growth. We change, adapt and exists in different environments.
As humans we are constantly learning from anything that happens around us. What went wrong in an emotional situation or what went right. How we will approach that next time. The timing of “next” time and what happens between now and then.
Each aspect of how we react and learn creates memories. Growth. Stability. Sensitivity.
Plants are like people. Ever changing, developing, growing, reaching for something more.
We need constant care and attention. So do they.
We do better in healthier relationships and non-toxic environments. So do they.
With age develops character, uniqueness and history. History that can be seen and shared by those around. You might have to dig a bit or lean in to notice these differences, but real friends ask about what has shaped us and how we have gotten to where we are each today.
I find it interesting that life is happening to all of us at the same time, but changes us all into such unique people.
Plants are a way that we can each observe in our very homes changes that nature makes when treated with love.
We find joy in caring for something else and seeing it reciprocate that effort.
It is beautiful to observe the changes and life cycles of leaves coming and going.
Ouch! Bonsai Pruning is hard
For me, it has been reconciling to watch how good things and new growth come from pruning. Yes, it is needed but - man is it hard to take a sharp edge to my plants!
It hurts, sure to cut back my bonsai tree. I feel like I’m damaging it. In the long run though, It brings it back stronger, greener than before.
Through storms that knock me down temporarily, I tend to grow the most personally. Is it the same for you?
Dearest reader - wherever you are
What attracts you to plants? Is it a personal connection with nature? Have they helped you get through tough times? Taught you valuable lessons?

During the past few months with so much world change (starting with the Nashville Tornado going right by my window) they have helped me love, serve and heal from a literal storm that tore my emotions and core to pieces.
