Monitaly AW20
I first came across Yuki Matsuda’s brilliant work through Yuketen, as we carried their boat shoes at Por Vocação, where I first worked after transitioning into fashion. Years after, when I began attending Pitti, it made perfect sense that the first labels I wanted to visit in person were the same ones I was used to selling to an elite audience, hoping to see the faces behind the brands.
Yuki was definitely a revelation and a personality that marked me to this day. One of the coolest looking, funny, heart-warming individuals I’ve had a chance to meet, he spent quite some time filling me in on the details of Yuketen’s collection and that is when he introduced me to his other project: Monitaly.
It was interesting to see that despite being more fashion oriented, the essence of Yuketen carried on to Monitaly, as an homage to Native American culture and brilliant craftsmanship met contemporary fashion staples. The brand’s AW20 collection showcases just that, with a mix of traditional silhouettes reinvented with a high-tech feel through bold quilted fabrics, velvet puffers and pleated pants, raw denim and even an embroidered poncho.
