Indie horror is a wonderful thing. Wacky storylines, kitschy characters, and delightfully gratuitous gore all thrive in these low budget gems.
Although this particular brand of horror has been on the up and up lately, it does by no means imply that a film with these characteristics is destined to sparkle in the indie spotlight. A harsh reality for Ian Messenger’s Monkey Farm.

Monkey farm visit
I'm having a killer day so far. It's my "day off" but I got to go to one farm, then checked out the second monkey farm (research facility). The others left to do their work and I got to stay there for almost 2 hours, just walking around and watching the monkeys. It was pretty incredible. I had one adult male present to me (a submissive gesture), and 3 other adult males got erections when I came to hang out with them. The juveniles are really curious but also careful. They're the ones who would come right up to me and look me in the eyes and up and down, cock their heads, and then run away super fast if I moved too much. I also got to see the monkeys eating which was absolutely thrilling since the past 2 weeks I have been only seeing what it looks like after they eat. I saw no evidence of them not wanting to get their hands dirty. They ate unripe fruit, sure, but their hands were all over it. Some would sit down and eat a whole piece, others would eat a bite, run, grab another piece, eat a bite, etc. They don't eat the skins of bananas or sweet potato if they can help it. I think the hands dirty effect has more to do with the anatomy of their hands and their ability to grip than anything else.
Today is going to continue to be awesome because I'm leaving in a few hours to go to a Rasta celebration of the day that Ethiopia defeated Italy. Free Rasta food, music and games! And, as Kerry so aptly put it, an anthropologist's dream!
