This piece has become iconic in some realms over the years, appearing in 20+ publications both here and abroad. It's an autobiographical piece about the fine line between delights and demons, and reality and fantasy. The title is a play on words combining the Rolling Stones song "Mother's Little Helper" and the term "helper monkey" (Helper monkeys are service animals trained to assist people with disabilities) Monkeys: People either love ‘em or hate ‘em. Regardless of how you feel about them, it’s impossible to observe one without contemplating their humanness. They are a reflection of mankind at our best and at our worst.

Sometimes you’re grey monkey on top, some days you’re grey monkey on bottom. Me, I’m most happy as the gold one squished in the middle: surrounded by all my favorite monkeys and almost feeling like I belong there.
