these are gonna be some MESSY thought so hold onto your hats. might be subject to change on the site itself once I get a full idea of him/where he fits into things but here are just some thoughts I’m kicking around if they spark any ideas!! lmk!

jay comes from lur and is the son of an almost proto-dynasty within the ranks of the library there (or mb one of the noble families? we’ll see). both of his parents are librarians so naturally he went on to become one too. ofc there are rumors of nepotism but he worked hard to get where he is, and he can prove it. so stay in your lane.

not interested in adventuring or literally any of that indiana jones stuff! he just wants to do his research and chill with some books! literally a huge ravenclaw nerd. 

PROBLEM: turns out that there’s celestial influence way back in his ancestry that’s been dormant for just long enough to be forgotten about. surprise! he’s not fully human, he’s aasimar. he’s pretty human-passing, so no one really suspected anything until puberty hit and he started growing feathers in his hair. unfortunate. 

this incidentally made him powerful, rare, and vulnerable, which put him in a unique situation to be taken advantage of. he was taken under the wing of a librarian with a strong interest in medical experiments. lets say jay was half patient/half assistant, tho the librarian had him convinced he was an equal partner in the endeavor. 

eventually this culminated in jay willingly infecting himself with plague in order to further the effects of his natural divine healing magic toward finding a cure. it sort of worked. the experiment carried on until jay realized that the librarian wasn’t finding sick people for him to try to heal, they were picking up orphans and purposefully infecting them so they could control aspects of the experiment 

jay realized the depths of what he was a part of, flipped out, and ran.

PROBLEM: the plague tainted his divine magic and now it’s wonky. he can still use it, but it’s volatile, and he’s just as likely to infect someone as he is to heal them, depending on a lot of factors. wears a mask in crowded spaces because he’s afraid he might be infecting people and not even realizing it, and also because this is fantasy and the aesthetic is KEY. 

is now hiding out from his teacher, who considers him their property, and the library, which has been convinced that he’s stolen something of value (himself, but they don’t know that bit). it’s not good.

hello! i’m stu (she/her), 26, longtime rper with intermittent periods of activity. work often renders me scatterbrained/Too Soul-Weary to Communicate but i love writing and plotting in my downtime!

very into dark fairytale plots/aesthetic in general; i also like a touch of whimsy/humor in my rp plots, though. my characters never take themselves that seriously (or, when they do, *i* don’t take them seriously). so preferred plots are...Dark and Snarky.

i, too, love the witcher 3 (keira and ciri in Particular, yenn depending on the day), though the dragon age games own my fantasy-loving heart. would love a da-inspired group (or mb even a grey warden-esque group?). also enjoy: legend of zelda; harvest moon/rune factory; fallout, new vegas in particular; animal crossing; stardew valley.

more about me: slytherin, intj, aries. i love movies and music in addition to the aforementioned video games (fave movie: pan’s labyrinth, fave band: the smiths or the national but i listen to non-sad-teenager music too). i have a dog (bowie) and a cat (kipling) and they are my Sons

preferred rp plots include, but are definitely not limited to: complicated familial relationships, enemies to lovers/emotionally constipated people forced to reckon with their feelings in general, found families (but esp. the kind that are forced together by circumstance and don’t get along initially), court intrigue/powerful ladies in court (hello the favourite), morally ambiguous characters/complex and ambiguous relationships in general—are they best friends or mortal enemies? por que no los dos!

looking forward to monomyth in particular for the thread variety the d&d-esque play will offer; i would really like spontaneous plot/quest threads and then more in-depth character/relationship dev threads based on the events of the plot. so if that is something that ALSO interests you, hmu!!

THE VANASTI REBELLION

Ok hello I really want to organize some stuff with the rebellion against the fairy queen! A few sparknotes before I get to the want ad portion of this:

The Fairy Queen has been ruling for 400 years. She’s half-fae, half-human, born of an alliance to try and settle the age-old war between humans and fairies in Vanasta.

While her intentions are noble, her methods are often questionable. She barely ever interacts with her human subjects, and the most influence that the human/non-fairy population feels from her is the kidnappings/changelings.

The humans don’t know WHY this is happening, because the Queen ended the gruesome tradition of changelings when she first claimed the throne. Back then, fairies actually would do horrible things to the people they captured. While the Queen assures her subjects that those she holds captive are unharmed, they’re far from convinced, because they’re never heard from again. A lot of times they’ll be replaced with fae babies, ostensibly to improve human and fairy relations.

What most of the non-fairy population DOESN’T know is that the Queen implemented changelings again because it adds to her power. Being half human, she’s mortal, and her powers are waning. This could be bad, very bad, because fairies have long memories, and many of them relish the idea of getting back at the humans who made war on them so many centuries ago. The Fairy Queen holds them at bay. Her intentions are good, but her methods are questionable, and it’s been seriously upsetting people for a long time.

Aside from the issue of changelings and kidnappings, the Queen doesn’t actually do a ton of ruling in the mortal world, preoccupied as she is with governing capricious fairies. The laws of Vanasta have barely changed for 400 years, and the different noble houses often have their own laws for the land they rule. Disputes over land and inheritance are usually solved with blood, because the humans don’t want to have the Queen, disconnected as she is, meddling in their affairs.

So! Some ideas!!!! 

On the house list I put that House Sable is the leaders of the rebellion, but this isn’t set in stone so if anyone has ideas for a different house we can definitely change things up.

Right now I imagine it’s about to kick off. The humans have noticed that the FQ has become weaker over time, or more withdrawn, so they’ve been concocting plans to free themselves from her rule.

The motivations for this are varied – some are very preoccupied with ideas of liberty and self-governance, some just hope to grab power for themselves, and still others just want some vengeance for the fact that some of their family members have disappeared.

Others are against the idea because it will mean more deaths and disappearances and not worth the effort. Some believe that even if she has weakened a bit, she’ll still too powerful to take on. There are also a few that believe her claims that their family members are unharmed but being held hostage, and worry that if they retaliate, they’ll die.

Fairy opinion is mixed too. Some should like the idea because they view humans as pesky and either want to be free of them or want to do terrible things once FQ’s protection over them is broken.

I’ll be making a member of House Lionheart, though the other houses have nothing decided as present so there’s a lot of flexibility

Here’s what we need: Vanasti characters of varying opinions and roles.

House heads and members who are willing to do some moving & shaking are definitely needed

Anti-Queen because of anger over her practices, especially changelings

Anti-Queen to take power for themselves

Pro-Queen for fear of oathbreaking, loss of life, or for other reasons
