How I found Paganism
I was raised Christian. I liked Christianity when I didn’t know anything about it. But then I had to pray to a deity I didn’t believe in. I had beliefs that this deity was watching every little thing I did and if I ever did anything wrong, it would be noted as a reason to go to hell.
Imagine being younger than 8 years and thinking you’re going to hell because you did something that you’re not sure is right or wrong.
9 year old me renounced Christianity and every other religion with it. Little nine year old me thought all religions were the same. This was about the same time that we started learning world religions and I was introduced to reincarnation.
I, a scholar, decided to look up other sacred beliefs. That research and me being exposed to my favorite Studio Ghibli films led me to the discovery of nature spirits, faeries and all the things I believe in now.
However, even though I held belief in spirits and faeries, I considered myself an atheist until around age 17. At that age, I was a blend of atheist and pagan beliefs. At age 18, I began researching pagan religions, specifically Wicca and witchcraft. At age 19, I formally declared myself Wiccan. An eclectic witch, really with a close connection to nature.
So here I am at age 20, still studying Wicca and paganism. I find I only really practice at the changing of the seasons and when the weather is particularly nice or whenever there is a full or new moon that I notice. I still consider myself pagan, even if I don’t practice daily.
So there you have it. A post nobody asked for.
