I recently (yesterday) stumbled across your hive mind x reader posts. I hadn’t considered that possibility before, but now I can’t stop considering it, so thanks for the new obsession ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ )

AAAAA thank you!! I’m glad there are others who think on the same wavelength as I am because I’ve only really ever seen hive minds interpreted to be scary, hostile, completely threatening incarnations where if you interact with one, you are dead immediately. I’ve don’t know of any pieces of media where the hive mind is actually gentle and while obviously being a terrifying collection of assimilated people who think as one, they actually don’t truly mean any harm and in the end can prove to be an ally or protector. The closest to what I’ve been cooking up in my brain is Pluribus, but even with that hive mind, there’s still clearly an underlying tone of hidden threat. Idk I’m a huge sap who lives my monsters to be gentle, and I think the idea of a hive mind that doesn’t really care if you are immune still choosing to chase after you and try to protect you because it ADORES you that much is strangely comforting.

I might try to write an actual story based off of it, but it would probably be a one shot.

anyway for lack of a better phrasing, i think johan is “addicted to wiping his slate clean”. he has never had a stable living situation and never had a stable personhood; so to continue living by “shapeshifting” IS just his normal way of life. additionally,

if one starts a new life and identity they can wipe their sins clean. all perceptions of them, their personhood, their actions, can all just be removed as they then become a new person entirely. johan, to me, reads as someone who can’t stand that “buildup” of personhood; when he’s done too much wrong, or even just too much At All, he has to wipe the slate clean. get rid of all the baggage

its avoidance to the extreme. he will never make lasting connections, he cannot stand it. he will never build up guilt or shame if he can annul it outright, and remove everyone thats had any memory of him. and to some degree, i think he DOES recognize that what he does is wrong— he just refuses to face it. he doesnt have to. but of course it DOES all build up in the back of his consciousness nonetheless, which is why his final big plan is to have such a grand suicide. its wiping the slate clean

creature that feels emotions differently from most humans. Not too different, but different enough. Maybe they don't strictly feel anything like love or affection, but they definitely experience trust, and pleasure, and possession. Maybe not fear, but shock, anger, empathy. On the surface, it looks incredibly similar, until you look closer. Maybe it gets abnormally possessive of a friend. Maybe it gets agitated when you hurt yourself. Even mild things, just enough to throw someone off.
