Made a day trip to Mont Serrat! Wish it was longer. There was way too much to see and draw for just a day, but it was nice.
A Day on the Mountain
Today, I woke up bright and early at 7 AM to catch a train to Mont Serrat, a large mountain that lies a little more than an hour outside the city. The mountain has a cable car, a train system, and several hiking trails leading up to a monastery that was built on a spot where the Virgin Mary is said to have visited a traveler. The monastery is very large and can be seen from the bottom of the mountain and is famous for it's boys choir. There are various museums and hiking trails at the top as well.
After our train ride to the Mont Serrat area, we left the station and began a very confusing search for the trail head to scale up the mountain. After wandering around for a good 30 minutes to an hour we decided to just take the train up the mountain. The views were amazing all the way up into the clouds, until we go to the monestary and got off. From then on we hiked even further up for about an hour past drop offs and great scenic back drops, or as scenic as the clouds can be haha.
We scaled back down after a bit and then toured the monastery before heading back down the hill in the train. The views were great and it was a great change to the outdoors from the busy city.
