It's a texting app that doesn't use your texting plan (it does require data, or wifi, thus a smart phone).  Since it doesn't use your texting plan but rather data/wifi you can text internationally and not pay anything!!!

oh god, my favorite animal is a lemur, so I'm gonna say swing around in the rainforest all day humming the move it song from madagascar

yep. me and my ex boyfriend always passed of notes and I have all of them in a drawer in my room. Along with any notes from various other people.
