The eastbound Overland Mail stops at Montello, Nevada back in the days when the railroads had a mail contract and long mail and express trains like this were common. In addition to handling the mail and express, these trains typically made stops at most of the the little towns that the "name" trains missed. The coach on the rear was for the flagman, and another coach in the middle of the train handled the revenue passengers. August, 1966

Montello, Nevada
Here we have a Union Pacific container train racing eastward through the dusty but wonderful small town of Montello, Nevada.
The Central Pacific built through here in 1869 on its way to Promontory Summit. The line was then taken over by the Southern Pacific in 1885, and became part of the Union Pacific in 1996.
