Gemfields, a British mining firm, says it has agreed to pay seven and a half million dollars to people in Mozambique who dragged it to court over alleged human rights abuses at a ruby mine.
At least 300 persons living near the Montepuez mine had complained about being beaten, shot, sexually abused and unlawfully detained by private security guards and Mozambican security forces.
