ENDYMIONS → A WRITEBLR

hi! i’m +isa, she/her, and i’ve been around writeblr for a while :) i wanted to make a new intro (even tho i made one recently when i moved blogs) because its 2020 and i’m planning on working on some new wips! you may hear a little bit about my older wips, but they really need reworking, so i’m mostly going to focus on these new ones while i try and redevelop those! 

andromeda lux → andromeda is the last heir of her coven, and considered to be rather mediocre for such a station. when she comes into her true abilities after the death of her girlfriend, she realizes that she has everything, and nothing, all at once. when she and her girlfriend’s ghost find out that st. edmund’s university may have information on necromancy to restore alicia to life, the two meet a group of students who may be able to help.

empire of souls → the gods are dying. there is not enough magic left in the land after the colonial empire’s invasion to sustain them. arwen is the last champion alive, the only person left with enough innate magic to communicate with the gods. when she finds a dragon egg in the rubble of a monastery, the gods realize that this is their last, and only, chance to restore magic and save their land. together with the rightful princess and the colonial empire’s only prince, the three will have to do whatever it takes to save their magic, their gods, and their land, before it’s too late.

burn the world → eva and maggie chase are alone. the usa is a shadow of what it once was before the Destruction. now, as children and adults begin developing strange superpowers in the Aftermath, the government has a vested interest in taking them as living weapons. after eva gets taken away, maggie has to confront the gift she’s been hiding from her sister and from the world. together with others who have evaded the government’s eyes, maggie will have to launch the most dangerous rescue mission ever. if she succeeds, she, her sister, and their newfound friends still have to cross the border into canada, where they’ll be safe. if she fails, she forfeits her freedom. if she’s lucky, her life.

dial a for apocalypse → the eternal civil war of the gods has ended. evil has prevailed, and the world is falling into destruction. one goddess manages to escape the imprisonment of the losing side, landing on earth and hiding in the body of a human girl. with the help of her host and the host’s boyfriend, she’ll have to navigate teen life and the beginnings of the apocalypse, all the while formulating a plan to save her siblings and restore balance.

happy worldbuilding wednesday friend. can you tell me what birthed the world of thd? what was the first thing, the first thought that lead to its existence? I’m curious! 🐍

it started out as a short story years ago and i never got to finish it, rip but it’s a story of a unnamed hunter getting lost in the woods and shit gets down. i revisited the idea in 2017 and i was ‘hey i think i could rewrite this’ and went from there. 

also 2017 me is also the era where i wanted to incorporate horror and mystery in a fantasy setting, especially having read and studied germanic folklore and tales (though i’m still no expert) and being a weirdo in english lit, it painted the idea of writing a couple themes that comes from these folklore. like the dualities of the crossroads and how the woods act as a portal to the otherworld. 

so the sense of dread and unknown of the malevolent entities idea is what birthed the world of THD into existence  🐍 i should have shorten this answer smh

hey happy storytelling saturday! can you tell us more about true deaths and what a reija is? (basically expand on your last answer? i’m very intrigued)

all “true deaths” meant was that the things she dreamed/wrote about were actually true. She didn’t know she was a death god at the time, she just thought she was a typical morbid teen XD

the l’reij are a class of storytellers/rulers among the serpent shapeshifters, who kept the oral traditions and histories of their people, as well as serving as judges and arbiters when the need for such things would arise. Often the heart of a village, the l’reij were beloved pillars of the community. They welcomed any all to their fires, sharing stories and meals, and teaching the children their first lessons. While this role is largely obsolete by the time In Search of Asylum is set, Seth is still trained in teh art, and he holds it very dear to his heart.

hey happy worldbuilding wednesday! ☀️ what is the most complex thing you had to create for your world?

*digs through the like 4 documents and slideshows on plot and worldbuilding*

So here’s the thing. I was thinking on this and I decided on like... The Gemini City, the infrastructure and government and economy and slave trade and human trafficking and how all of that works into the plot. Then I realized the Capricorn was more complicated. Then I remembered the magic functionality and mechanics I’m adding to each race, then that made me think of the magic system my husband came up with. He wants a hard magic system - which I attribute to him being a TTRPG game designer - and I just want to make a good narrative.

Then I realized I could explain all of those things and the reasoning behind how they came to be, so they became less complicated? Like, if you can explain it to someone, you have a very good understanding of it. If you know it well enough to teach it. Etc.

So... I guess the entirety of the worldbuilding is complicated?

The Pisces live in underwater bubbles because of pollution filling the seas. The Libra live on a floating chunk of land. The Cancer... are nomadic because they were forced out of their homeland. The Scorpio are endothermic(?) so they have a winter hibernation that requires an extra clan to watch over them that they fill with warm-bloods.

Like everything is some degree of complicated because life is complicated.

But that’s all a cop-out. I honestly... couldn’t say what I think is the most complicated, because it’s all my cogs of my own design.

hey happy sts ! would you tell us about your plague? what is the cause of it? how is it spreading? how does it affect the world? any political difficulties thanks to it? how are we dealing with it?

Thanks! Yay! I’m glad someone finally asked about the plague!

The cause of the plague was a curse. An ancient ruin was opened by a few adventurers, unleashing the wrath of an undead god.

The plague was spread simply by virtue of being a living, sentient being. Those who were infected died quickly, with symptoms ranging from fever to internal bleeding. When one dies of the sickness, they are then reanimated as a zombie within 24 hours.

The Known World was thrown into chaos. The brightest minds of the age tried to figure out a cure without knowing the cause. Magic became feared and mistrusted, as not even the most powerful healers could not save anyone. It devastated many populations -- some cities and villages being nearly wiped out completely.

The people of the different countries united together against the sickness, attempting to help each other. This would later become the foundation for what is now known as The Union, which is essentially a federation that unites nearly all of the countries of The Known World in some way, usually through agreements of trade and the like.

A necromancer by the name of Corax claimed to have a cure -- but it would cost innocent souls to appease the undead god from which the curse originated. When people refused to sacrifice themselves and their neighbors, Corax went on a campaign to collect the souls via an undead army. This caused even more anger towards magic users, and the scars upon the common social psyche became the image of being forced to fight a zombified friend on the battlefield, since Corax would often raise all of his enemies' corpses from a previous battle. It was extremely morally damaging, because every person you lost against Corax's horde would just be added to their army.

Eventually, the sickness faded away, the dead stopped rising, and Corax's forces fell. The common people don't know what really happened, but the necromancer was never seen again. 

In reality, Corax was defeated by a few heroes. In a last-ditch attempt to get rid of the curse that ruined the world, the necromancer attempted to dispel it with a ritual with the souls they had already collected via the war, petitioning the old god which it originated from. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for the ancient god,  so the curse became inflicted upon Corax instead, trapping the plague inside their own body. Half-dead already, the heroes came upon Corax and dealt the final blow. As an unexpected result of the failed ritual, Corax became immortal -- and their body twisted into a monstrous form.

🦉🌟 hey, happy storytelling saturday! lord, your wips - may i pls be tagged in all of them (also the EXCERPTS LISTEN I-) ahem. my question for you today madam is which oc do you find the most difficult to write. what were they created? what inspires you the most in their journey to development? and what is it about them do you consider most important to you?

these questions are so GOOD! i’d have to say the character i find hardest to write is probably hanako from wayward! she’s gone through... i want to say at least three major character shifts? she started out as a very serious, very stoic, I Keep All My Emotions Right Here and Then One Day I’ll Die character. then she had a very flippant almost mean personality? but as difficult as it was i’m glad i went through it because now (finally) i know she’s a character that uses jokes to hide her feelings!

i think what makes me so attached to her is that. well #1 i’ve projected but i’m also just genuinely invested in making sure she ends up happy. hana goes through SO much shit (the plan is for wayward to be the first in a trilogy) and i really really want to write the arc of a traumatized character like. learning to heal and be loved/happy. like i said! i projected!
