It’s a dreary time of the year for me. Living in the north, it’s cold, and we don’t get as much sunlight as we do in the summer months. The cold isn’t too bad; I have a plethora of sweaters, blankets, and cozy socks to keep me warm. The sunlight is a different story. Decreased sun exposure is associated with a drop in our body’s serotonin levels and can lead to seasonal depression.

Getting drunk

For long periods of time, humanity had only associated the term "getting drunk" with those that went under the influence of alcohol and alcohol alone, yet in the times that we currently live in, I believe that term should be applied more broadly.

Getting drunk should refer to the act of acting in a manner different from what our regular response would be due to a mood altering factor.

Love and lust have a much higher effect on how we alter our behaviour than alcohol does. With alcohol people merely slur their words, lose their balance and do things they've considered but wouldn't normally do. Under the effects of love we do things we never would've thought of off doing.

Love drives our actions, lust clouds our judgment, regret makes seek absolution even in demeaning ways, anger makes us bolder, envy makes us spiteful, greed makes us creative, pride makes us protective of our self and they all can make us get drunk in ways that alcohol can only dream.

Alcohol depends on you consuming it, these mood altering factors are always with you waiting to pounce.

Sometimes the menace of a hangover is not so frightening when the things that can alter us the most can always come back.
