On the moon thing: maybe the composition of the moon changes the sunlight when it's reflected? Light isn't perfectly reflected, some parts of the spectrum are absorbed by the object it's reflected from. Maybe nightwings need specific combinations of reflected light, and regular sunlight won't work because it's not reflected off the moon in that exact combination? (I'm using high school science here so I doubt this is very scientifically accurate) I've got no idea what an eclipse would do.

from further googling and looking at some probably not verified scientific sources, moonlight can differ from sunlight with different polarization, lesser concentration, and less uv reflection, so it being a result of coming off of the moon is very possible. additionally, some animals have special receptors to navigate using polarization during the day (and possibly night?) even if it’s cloudy or overcast, which is a cool fact

also a side note, to put something in this post that we can probably all agree on: nightwings born when a moon is red should also be red. that’s how genetics work probably.

Have you ever thought if a Nightwing gains powers if it hatches on a lunar eclipse (if such thing exist in that world)?

i wish i knew how the celestial bodies thing worked out in pyrrhia bc like, three moons? but having all three visible is like, a major event? where are the moons usually? does one have a really slow orbit? does the planet eclipse them in turn so there’s never three full moons showing? can we even be sure they’re moons and not planets? what is it about moonlight that gives nightwings cool powers because like, that’s just sunlight bouncing off of the moon, you could just hatch super-powerful nightwings by leaving them on a beach for a day. or is it like, the precise amount of light that a nightwing egg gets from one moon, or two or three that changes their abilities, and any more light cancels it out?

i think without the whole But How parts, having an eclipse nightwing would give them powers that negate the powers of those around them, instead of giving them anything they can use on others; blocking mindreaders, blocking future vision, yknow.

Theory-anon jumping in with an idea I heard concerning werewolves that I feel could also partially work with Nightwings. Some say that the moon has some type of crystal or some other material that is powered when in direct sunlight( which is why there is 'moonlight') and that power sets off werewolves. Maybe it can trigger the development for Nightwing powers but are only at full strength when under a full moon?
