Could I request a continuation of the newt scammander x child reader where shortly after being adopted the reader has a nightmare of newt abandoning her and he gives her lots of cuddles and reassurance? Thank you and itās okay if you donāt want to write this!
First of all I am so sorry that it took me three years to answer. Life caught up to me and between school, writing an own book, writerās block and starting as a dance teacher I neglected this blog. But I remembered this request and I wanted to get back into writing do now. Besides I think that I Write mich more mature and nicer to read now. So now you can enjoy my approved writing style, I guess
Pairing: Newt Scamander x child reader
Warning: mention of abandonment
Summary: The reader has a nightmare and Newt is there to comfort her.
You have been shot. That is the only explanation for the sudden hard impact, the shock followed closely by the burning intense stinging sensation from your heart. But there's no blood, no life-threatening condition only a throbbing pain that wonāt leave you alone as you stand before Newt. His words still echo in your mind:
Ā«I donāt want you here!Ā»
«You are too difficult, too annoying»
«You forced me to take you in»
You can do nothing but stare at him, frozen in shock and tears threatening to spill. You had been wrong to hope. You know that now. You shouldnāt have trusted Newt. You shouldnāt have believed that you could deserve anything better than lonely days living on the street filled with dangers and anxiousness.
And now here you are being kicked out of your home again. Maybe you shouldāve been used to it by now but you truly believed Newt grew fond of you, see you as his daughter even if itās only his adopted one. But apparently you were wrong. Newt threw the little belongings you had out of the house. Ā«I donāt want to see you ever again!Ā», with that he slammed the front door shut in your face.
Thereās nothing left for you to do but stare at the closed door, your bottom lip trembling as tears roll down your cheeks.
Eventually you start to pick up all your belongings looking left and right on the street after you had everything in your hands to see where to go now.
Aimlessly you managed to walk a few streets to the park before you break down completely because it is now that the realization hits you completely: Heās gone. Youāre alone againājust like before. You sink down on the ground, your knees drawn up to your chest as you hug them and cry into them.
Suddenly you hear a familiar voice call out your name. Itās distant but warm. You look up and around to see who called you although your blurry vision made it difficult.
Ā«(Y/N)?Ā» There it is again closer and soft but you donāt see anyone around you. Youāre completely alone sitting on the ground of the park.
Is that a hand on your forehead? It feels like someone is gently pushing a strand of your hair out of your face. Your heart is racing as you frantically look around for the person causing all this. But thereās no one there. Your breathing starts to quicken and you sit up.
Every part of your body is drenched in sweat.
Ā«Ssh, (Y/N). Itās okay, it was just a nightmare. Youāre safeĀ»
You feel arms wrap around yourself and youāre immediately hit by the earthy natural scent with just a hint of leather in itāNewtās scent.
With a still racing heart and uneven fast breathing youāre still frantically looking around trying to make sense of it all. You push the person away but stop in shock as you see its in fact Newt looking at you with a worried gaze.
Ā«Itās me, sweetheart. You had a nightmare but youāre safe nowĀ», his voice resembles a gentleness that you usually only hear when heās talking to a scared creatures of his.
You can see the outlines of your room thanks to the bedside lamp Newt must have turned on. And right next to you is Newt kneeling on the ground.
«Newt?», confusion mixed with the still very present anxiousness is clouding your mind.
Ā«Yes, itās me. Iām here. Youāre safeĀ»
Thatās all it took for you to fall into his arms clinging to him tightly while you cry into his chest.
Newt hesitates for a short moment but wraps his arms around you holding you gently and cradles the back of your head with one hand.
Ā«Donāt leave me, please. Please, donāt go. Donāt goā¦Ā«, you repeat your pleas like a mantra as your quick breathing borders to hyperventilating
Ā«Ssh, Iām not leaving. Iāll stay with you. Donāt you worry, darlingĀ», Newt lets you cry into his chest while he just keeps holding you and slowly traces soothing circles on your back until your sobs turn into mere sniffles.
Ā«Do you want to talk about it, sweetheart?Ā», his voice never misses the softness that describes his whole being. And yet you hesitate, not sure if you want to let him in to your fears. Youāre scared to appear clingy, youāre scared to embarrass yourself, you are scared to be too difficult to live withā¦
Before you could overthink any longer his voice cuts through your train of thought: Ā«Itās okay if you donāt want to tell me but itāll be easier for me to help you when I know what troubles youĀ»
That makes you perk up ā¹easier for himāŗ meaning he would comfort you no matter what you decided. Heād stay either way. It still takes you a while to hesitantly form words: Ā«Y-you left me⦠you left me like she did⦠I was all aloneĀ», you never called her mum or anything similar always only ā¹sheāŗ because thats all she was to you. She never deserved the title of a mother and especially not from you.
Newt knew about that and he also knew about your separation anxiety. Of course he knew, how could he not when you clearly felt uneasy every time he left the room and were obviously relieved when he came back. While Newt might have trouble making eye contact his work with magical creatures made him exceptionally keen on reading living beings including you.
Ā«You know Iād never abandon you. Youāre my daughter. And while you obviously have bad experiences with the word family, we are oneāand Iāll do my best to show you what family truly means. Now come on, I know whatāll make you feel betterĀ», he extracts himself from your tight grip but takes your hand and leads you into his suitcase grabbing a bucket in his shed on the way. Itās the middle of the night so most creatures are sleeping now.
Ā«Where are we going?Ā», to say youāre confused would be an understatement as you followed Newt through the different habitats.
Ā«Youāll seeĀ», his voice is almost teasing as he keeps walking a clear goal in mind. Soon you both reach a mountain-like hill with a herd of creatures with long necks and four spindly legs. Itās then that you realize that it is full moon tonight.
Ā«ā¦I noticed how calm and happy you seem while you fed the mooncalves and I figured it might help distract you a littleĀ», he holds the bucket which is filled with pellets out to you.
The big blue eyes that make most of the creatures head made them incredibly adorable to you, so you gladly take the bucket and start feeding them. Their little jumps as they try to catch the pellets makes you smile immediately and even giggle a little. Meanwhile Newt watches you with a little smile himself from the side.
After you are done feeding Newt settles against the rock surrounded by the mooncalves and motions for you to come to him «come here»
You walk to him and surprisingly he gently pulls you into his lap. Normally he isnāt willingly affectionate with people but you are the exception, you are his daughter after all. Besides he knows youāre still a little shaken from your dream. He lets you cuddle up to him and wraps his own arms around you.
Ā«I want you to know that Iād never even think about leaving you behind, alright? Me and our magical creatures love you way too much to just abandon youĀ»
You can only nod in response but Newt feels your still tense muscles relaxing and you visibly calm down while you keep watching the mooncalves cuddled up in your fatherās lap. Both of you know that your fear of abandonment and separation anxiety wouldnāt magically vanish after this night but Newt is committed to reassure you any time it troubles you and youāyou have never felt safer and more at home than in this moment with Newtās arms around you in his suitcase where all his magical creatures live that youāve grown to love just as much as he does.
Soon Newt feels you becoming limp in his arms and your breathing even out. He holds you just a little tighter to protect you from anymore cruel nightmares. And it works your dreams are now filled with love, warmth, the idea of belonging in a true family and the occasional mooncalf hopping up and down and dancing on its hind legs.
