[just discovered your blog, love it, super cute]
Hi! Saw you specialize in Ghost-types and was wondering. I have a very lovely Aegislash under my care, sweet thing, quite timid and gentle for her species. She prefers staying in her shield forme most of the time and isn't much of a battler, but does like to sit in front of my snack cupboard and prevent my sneaky Mimikyu from stealing the kibble by gently nudging him out of the way.
What kind of enrichment would you suggest I give her that isn't training or battling? She acts quite bored and fidgety even doing her favorite thing of obstructing my Mimikyu, and any other species-appropriate enrichment I can think of is either too scary or not interesting to her. I've never met any Aegislash quite this strange!
Ahhh, Aegislash. One of my favorite ghost mons. Hardy, low maintenance grooming wise, loyal but still independent personalities. And absolutely adorable when they let their guard down.
Her protecting your snacks from your Mimikyu is precious. And very in character for the species. It’s said that in the old days, this mon would serve at the side of kings and rulers. It is their greatest instinct to defend someone, or something.
If this is her favorite activity, I think it would be a good idea to give her more things to protect. Alternating regularly, about every week or so, giving her something new. Tapping into that sense of duty should be comforting for her. Don’t give her anything actually serious of course, like your legal documents or whatnot. But something simple, hopefully shiny, that you can give to her and tell her to guard. Whenever you leave the house, telling her to guard it from your other mon. Don’t punish her if you come back and it’s out of place, but give her plenty of praise when she protects it.
If these don’t work, taking her out for walks may also be helpful. Most ghost types can get a little cabin-fever if kept inside too long, it could just be she needs some fresh air. Taking her out to the park, getting some ice cream perhaps. If the park isn’t busy of course, as you said she’s skittish.
She sounds lovely, and you can absolutely tell her I said so. You may need to toy with some things to find what works for her, but these are my top suggestions.
