I have to play the game again to know for sure... back in the day, years ago, I didn't get past the first half of the second island... I'm terrible at it 😭 but I'm working on getting the game back in my hands. Now, based on the gameplay videos I've seen and the designs, my favorite bosses would be (including the DLC, although I haven't seen that one as much):

This here bunch is a band of bootlegger bugs! I love bugs and tangentially bug-related critters! So, which member of the group is my favorite, who I choose to dedicate a whole post to?

Name: Moonshine Barrel

Debut: Cuphead

Yeah! It's the Freaken Barrel! I love this little thing. Look at it! It's holding its head like it's drunk! A drunk barrel is so charming, unlike a drunk dad. Barrels don't do that! And they certainly don't dabble in "have limbs"! This barrel is a real jokester.

You may be interpreting the X X as two eyes, but it's actually an XXX label- for alcohol! It is not a barrel of sex- so this does not actually have a face. And I love that! A lack of face can be so charming, especially when limbs are present for expression. Just look at Cooker the robot from Wallace and Gromit, for example!

I have no desire to drink any moonshine, so I would not be the Mob's target demographic. It was probably brewed in a bug's bathtub, anyway. No thank you. But I would love to befriend one of these barrels! We could frolic through the meadow, we could do secret handshakes, it could even drive me around town! And then we would die because that would be drunk driving!

The barrel's FAVORITE thing to do, though, is to dance! Look at it go, wowee! It may not have eyes, but there is clearly an innate sense of where its feet are at any given moment, preventing any tripping. All this, while eternally inebriated? Quite impressive! During the second phase of the Moonshine Mob's battle, the barrels will appear as obstacles, dancing across the stage and getting in your way. You'll be battling these objects like you're trying to win Dream Island!

There are also Pink Ones! Since pink things are parryable in this game, there are a lot of Pink Ones. There's even a worm :]

A bright pink barrel with an XXX on it brings to mind a horrible, horrible world where strawberry milk is illegal.

Epilogue

The game is generous enough to actually show us what becomes of the funny little barrels after the story is over! And they even get a happy ending! The mob seems to have successfully cleaned up their act after their confrontation with the police, reminding us that this is indeed a work of fiction, and the barrels are now full of baking powder. I sure am a fan of baking powder, I must say! It can lead to treats, and to sweets!
