“Eliza, close your eyes.” Alexander stated as he came up behind his wife, hands behind his back. He leaned in, placing a soft kiss against her lips before pulling away, smiling at her. “I have something for you, but I do need you to close your eyes before I give it to you.” He stated, keeping his hands behind his back, grin on his lips as he watched her.

THE CUP WAS WARM AGAINST HER palms, the scent of the cocoa filling her nose with each breath. It was perhaps a little early for such a sweet thing, but it was her birthday after all. Elsa could do some slightly indulgent things on such a day, surely?

It felt nice to look around the sitting room and see the decorations already being placed around. It wouldn’t be finished until Christmas Eve, but even just the start was more than they had had in years. With the party they were planning, it was sure to be a balm to the years of loneliness the castle had suffered. 

“Good morning, Anna,” she said at the sight of her sister, her smile bright, her eyes crinkling in the corners for happiness. Every time she saw her, was able to say a kind word or a gentle gesture... Lay a hand on an arm! It all felt like a miracle. “Did you sleep well?”

"Want some breakfast?"

He wasn't scheduled to head out to patrol till later that morning and seeing Clary there he figured breakfast sounded like a good idea. Especially as he was certain their patrol routes weren't going to coincide. They didn't need to spend every waking moment together. He'd seen her train, he knew she was ready to handle the same duties as the rest of them and that meant separate patrol routes to help cover the city. But he did like the idea of at least spending breakfast or lunch or even dinner together. Jace figured if she had any questions or concerns she could tell him and then he could help. Otherwise, he knew she needed to figure out things on her own. He was proud of Clary and knew she'd come so far from that day they first met. But like everyone else she had room for improvement. "I could take you to Taki's if you want."

His hands ached, eyes tired, and mind tangled in tightly coils knots. Despite what he would have preferred to believe, 𝐊𝐲𝐨𝐤𝐨'𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠.

“What I’m always doing when not in the field,” he answered, leaning back into his seat and folding his hands in his lap. “This was nothing but trouble, from beginning to end.” 𝐒𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫—𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭. Yes, there were likely cells of Remnants still remaining, still those in need of saving. Overall, however, things had eased.

“Why do you ask? Do you need something?” He sighed. “So long as it isn’t more paperwork, 𝐈'𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐰.”

It seemed as almost as he stepped through that door, he had swept Eliza up into his arms, kissing her gently. All he had wanted to do was kiss her and never let her go. He pulled away before kissing her more firmly this time before pulling away again, smile on his face. “My love,” he began breathlessly. “I have missed you so much. Never again do I want us to be parted.” A small pause before he continued on. “I hope all as been well with you, darling.”

𝐈𝐯𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨—𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐤. She especially didn’t like someone who was more often than not the enemy showing concern for the admittedly nasty slice across her arm. Tended to, bandaged, but still painful, Ivy was just managing her façade of 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭. 

She couldn’t quite hide how weak she was, though, slumped into her seat with half-closed eyes. “You’re awfully kind, especially considering the next time we meet it will 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬.” A verbal shove away. There was no guarantee she would be fighting Batgirl next time they met, but they both knew that their goals didn’t always align.

A smile made it’s way across Alexander’s lips as he looked at the scarf he was presented with. “Thank you, love.” He told her as he took it and placed it around his neck. “I love it. This will keep me warm.” He leaned in, placing a soft kiss against her lips. “And I love you.”
