remus x mariah { @moonylupens } / in the potions corridor
Although only a second year, many witches knew not to mess with Mariah’s workspace in the abandoned laboratory. She, and a few other colleagues, paid the caretakers a few gallons a month to keep from cleaning the second floor abandoned classroom. It was a secret of the aspiring potioneers at Elkridge; a quick slip of coin and they can keep a potion brewing for as long as needed, without having to go through the library or a professor. Mariah had her space carved out since the fall— a small half of the aged wooden table that was splashed with decades of potion splatter and a small—haphazard—stack of pewter caldrons below.
Today, she spent her free hour before supper checking up on her latest hair-brained idea, an aconite brew.. At Hogwarts, before she left, Mariah stumbled on a restricted book that wasn’t shelved correctly. She found it one day in the underwater flora section. It was titled Noctem Comantem & Other Moonlight Flora, and it sparked her latest string or projects. She tracked the growth of her aconite sprigs for a year and a day, and then she plucked them to make an oil. A fortnight ago, she started to brew a simple water base with moon charged water and a few other planned ingredients; today (at lunch), she added the aconite oil. She was eager to see it brew into something… anything.
Alas, her hopes were killed by peering into the simmering cauldron and nothing yet. She let out a dramatic sigh that scared a witches cat familiar that liked to bask in the laboratory’s windows. The door to the laboratory was ajar and Mariah could hear the distant clock tower bells toll calling everyone in for supper. Mairah’s last thought was food, she zoned in and opened her notebook taking samples and notes.
