At the beginning of "Some Like it Red", Fraser mentions that the Superintendent General of the RCMP is "due in from Moose Jaw today".

While the writers could have chosen Moose Jaw for its funny name, or Fraser's (brief) stint there, I think the writers likely chose it for its stealth connection to the episode's plot.

The central plot involves a schoolgirl who has discovered a vault linked to Al Capone. What does that have to do with Moose Jaw? Some claim that rum runners used tunnels under Moose Jaw for bootlegging during Prohibition - and that Al Capone himself may have visited the city (this claim is disputed). Mentioning Moose Jaw was an Easter egg for the Canadian audience, while for the Americans it was just a funny name.

A cardiology clinic in Saskatchewan, the birthplace of medicare, has opted out of the publicly funded heath-care system after it struggled to meet its costs under the province's fee structure. Dr. Jeffrey Wilkinson, who runs the South Saskatchewan Heart Clinic in Moose Jaw, said Friday in a statement that he believes it is the first clinic in the province to go private since universal health care was introduced in 1962. "Over the last five years, being a specialist clinic in Moose Jaw has been operationally and financially difficult," he wrote in the statement. "In early January 2023, these mounting difficulties became a crisis."
