Moral Imagination
Moral imagination is a key aspect in decision making, which is why I included it in my toolkit. The ability to take other perspectives into account is extremely important in creating a positive atmosphere in the workplace (Johnson, 2018). Poor leaders too often focus on their beliefs and fail to realize and understand that others may have conflicting opinions. By taking the time to listen to all perspectives, a leader can learn to incorporate all opinions and make a final decision that is beneficial to all involved. In order to reach full potential as a leader, one should embrace any duties you may have towards your community (Jones, 2009). Sensitivity to all ethics involved in the decision is a must in order to create an atmosphere and outcome suitable for all stakeholders. By taking into consideration all of the possibilities, a leader will be able to find many solutions and focus on one which will benefit the greater good (Johnson, 2018).
Individuals that fail to incorporate their moral imagination often create negative atmospheres in the workplace, resulting in unhappy and unmotivated employees. When followers feel as though their input does not matter, they may search for other opportunities to be heard elsewhere, leaving the leader without anyone following. Ensuring that all voices are heard and respected in the workplace is vital in maintaining relationships with followers.
Implementation Techniques:
1. Ask followers to anonymously submit their opinions about a decision or course of action. This will prevent any bias towards certain followers that may be present
2. Take all perspectives into account and attempt to put yourself in their shoes to fully understand how they will be influences by this decision
3. Create a list of all possible solutions and ask followers to rank them
4. Select the alternative that is perceived by the most people to have the best outcome
5. Ask followers to evaluate your improvement after focusing on moral imagination
