Villain, she knew that much, but why had they come here? Why now?

Rei limped away from the burning brick and stone that once was the hospital, doctors and civilians running past her carelessly, ignoring as she stumbled and hit the ground hard with a faltered step. Her hands gripped the pavement, her breath catching weakly in her throat as silver locks draped over a scratched face.

‘There she is!’ She heard a gruff voice hiss out.

‘That one? You sure that’s his wife?’ Another sneered.

They…They were here for her? Silver locks swayed as she pulled her face off the roadside and turned, eyes wide with terror and confusion as two masked men came stalking towards her, their shadows looming closer and closer, blocking the fire of what was once her mandatory home.

‘Hey there pretty lady…we’z were wonderin’ if we killed ya, we could upset the new numbah one, ain’t that right?” The blond one mused, spider appendages growing from the strangers back, sharp and pointed, crawling with it’s owner and lifting him up to stalk high above the now frozen in place mother of four.

‘Luckily for us, he ain’t in town.’ The other mused, brunette and wolfish in nature, his nails growing with claw liked talons. 

This-….All of this was just to kill her? All the people had been hurt...because of her?

They both took a stance, readying to end her right then and there, a taloned hand risen and one long spider leg swinging up only to come right down on her next.

Her children…she-she couldn’t leave them like this.

Not like this.

She thought it was all over now, of course…until a sudden blast of blue fire made itself known, cutting between the two murderers and their would-be victim.

Rei turned, eyes wide with confused.

 Who-…Who was that?

Kaya could hear him moving through the floor, thrashing as the terrors came, the rest of the dorm wondered who owned the name he screamed at night but Kaya knew.

Kaya knew the monster that plagued the Mockingbird. A monster in human flesh. The designer of Wonderland.

Out of all of the Deadmen, Toto may have had the worst fate of them all. True none of them had become unscathed but Toto had done it all right! He’d become the strongest Deadman, the very top of the Carnival Corpse, only to have Hagire’s consciousness forced into his body and his own suppressed.

Hagire had then run amok, he’d destroyed everything he’d built and had nearly destroyed Toto and the rest of the Deadmen along with it. He’d drained Toto of nearly all of his ichor, lost an arm and a leg, and had murdered the one person that Toto had cared about.

All in the name of quantifying L O V E.

Yes, Toto definitely had it worse than the rest of them.

Swinging her legs over the side of her bed with a sigh, the Sparrow made her way to the floor below where the boys slept. Unsurprisingly there was a crowd gathering, most of them confused or concerned–though some were also irritated–wondering if they should have gotten a teacher.

“Outta tha way” The snapped order seemed to take some of them by surprise because–to her surprise–they obeyed.

The blood curdling screams raised exponentially in volume when she parted the door from it’s frame; echoing through the hallways and surely waking any other soul lucky enough to have been able to sleep through them before. She cringed. But they weren’t enough to stop her from entering the room and closing the door behind her.

His screams echoed through the room, almost painful to hear as she made her way to where he thrashed on the bed. Waking him was–more or less–an exercise in futility, he would either wake on his own or ease back into sleep without waking. All she could do was soothe him, so that’s what she did.

Getting onto the bed, she eased his head up and set it across her knees, doing her best to pet his hair as he continued to fight his internal demons.

“He’s not here.” She told him softly, “Hagire is dead, he can’t hurt you anymore.” Over and over she repeated this, not really knowing if it were REALLY true, but saying it anyway.

More than once he scratched her, at one point he even bit her hard enough to draw blood, but when the teacher came into the room some fifteen minutes later, he’d calmed considerably. His screams had died down to almost pained moans as she stroked his hair and muttered reassurances that she doubted he could really hear. They would have some explaining in the morning, but for now she would do what needed to be done.

CROW.  it’s funny how people become. . . something less than how they were born. this damned prison, locked in a cage of blood & carnage. inhumane was the norm here, monsters everywhere, and to survive, he had to become one, or at least wear their skin. the warden really did love his little shows, didn’t he? he loved mixing it up, keeping the deadmen on their toes, shifting the platform just enough to watch as they twist their ankles. never had these games been so special as today s teams of two. double the work, double the prize. senji would have been so very satisfied to kill mockingbird while he danced around in that puddle of blood like some lovesick animal that took joy in seeing that color bleed out from the bodies of those poor, poor little deadmen. they weren’t fresh meat, they were returning veterans & those bastards gave him one helluva wound on his shoulder. only skin deep, his SIN made quick work of the wound and stopped it from bleeding out. the other bastard hid in the shadows, becoming one with all the blood that covered the floor, hiding his figure in a blood-like fog made by his partner (the one toto was using to play amateur surgeon.) mockingbird was too busy pulling out the beaten deadman’s tooth, making sure that the next time he snarls he’d feel the wind blow in his throat for good measure. ‘ HEY, FOCUS ! ‘  if mockingbird dies than half his money’s gone! ‘ H      ‘ he heard the movement, the stomp of boots and it wasn’t coming for him, but toto ! 

           he payed senji no mind, pulling and pulling and pulling as that fang p o p p e d right out the socket! behind him came the second deadman, howling in rage s his fists were massive, calcified and fortified by their BRANCH OF SIN     juggernaut. he could crush an elephant at full momentum, but it would never make it. crow came full force, using mockingbird’s obliviousness as bait. he assesed and adapted, swung his palm forward and skewered the deadman by the soft part of his temple. 

         a splat followed, dropping the body like something dirty. toto’s head finally turned, seems like he finally tuned in. just at that moment, senji pinned him to the wally, a palm grasping at his neck, his blood-blade pressed so c l o s e to his neck that if toto breathed too hard, it’d slice open hsi neck. senji’s cool broke into something more. . . volatile. ' You think this is a fucking game ? ‘ crowned winners or not, toto nearly costed him his bounty and he WILL answer. 

                     ‘ ANSWER ME. ‘

        “Isn’t that a little rich, coming from you?” It surprises her, actually, how quick the comeback falls from her lips, but, well, this is Touya, and if there’s one person she can stand to get a little indignant with, it’s one of her brothers. “It’s---it’s not like... ---like you have a monopoly on making questionable decisions in this family!”

    She isn’t serious in her irritation, actually more overcome with anxiety from how quick she is to doubt herself the moment anyone calls her actions into question, but still. “And---it’s not really that bad.” A pause, less final than it should be, before--- “Is it?”

                    A bright, fang filled smile stretched across her face as she gave a rather far too excited shake of her head, blonde buns a top of her head swaying and becoming even messier than before. “Oh course not! If they deserve it, they deserve it! We’re simply doing what should be done!” She let out a small giggle before her expression became far too serious, golden eyes growing dark and appearing menacing as she stared at the knife she held carefully in her hand, fingertips carefully grazing over of blade lovingly. “Like that bird... Overhaul... he deserves to die for what he did to Magne... that wouldn’t be murder. It’s getting even.”
