sneak peek #1 of chapter five:
Liz drops the tailgate of Maria’s truck and hops on to sit down, while Max leans against the side, watching Maria until she’s out of sight.
“I don’t get it,” Liz says as Max turns to face her. “Why can Maria go in, but you can’t?”
Max leans against the side of the truck, “Technically I can go in, but I would have to make an appointment, and have a Witch Hunter escort. All of which would take more time than we have.”
Liz tilts her head at him, “That implies that they trust her more than they trust you.”
“They do,” Max says simply. “Witches are the descendants of the seven angels that fell after Lucifer. Witch Hunters were created from the blood of witches and demons. They trust their kind more.”
“Created by who?” Liz asks furrowing her brow. “And why?”
Max moves around the truck and sits down beside her.
“Hundreds of years after the first angels fell there were seven major clans, led by the first child of each of the seven devils. The seven clans were split into three major groups. The Quarter Ring, made up of the descendants of Uriel, whose dominion is fire, Cassiel, earth, Asariel, water, and Zadkiel, air. The Gratia, children of Anael, whose dominion is love. And finally, the Darkling, descendants from Samael, who rules over pain and misery and Azrael, whose dominion is death.”
Liz switches position and leans back against the side, propping one foot up and leaning her elbow against it. Max stays in the same position, looking out across the empty parking lot.
“The Quarter Ring and the Darkling were at war with each other and had been for generations, the Gratia were caught in the middle, but were still trying to remain neutral, the trouble was that while that was happening, earth was being overrun by demons.”
He turns to her then, and looks a little like he’s enjoying this.
“There came a point where there were more demons than humans prowling the earth and that’s when the Queen of Death, first descendant of Azrael and Prince Caeli, first descendant of Zadkiel decided that it was time to do something. Since their brethren were too busy fighting against each other, they decided to create a subspecies.”
Liz furrows her brow at that mouth open to speak, and Max just gives her a half smile.
“They’re the children of devils, who were once angels, who are children of god, who created humans in his image. Their obvious solution was to do the same.”
Liz felt her interest peak even more, “How? Especially back then?”
Max just smiles and waves a hand in the air. “Magic.”
And then he frowns and shakes his head. “They used magic and not so willing volunteers, and managed to fuse demonic essence with some witch blood into several human beings, making them able to learn how to use magic.”
Liz nods her head, and then looks at her hands curiously. She might not have witch or demon blood running through her veins, but she had channeled Max’s magic, and she wonders if she would be able to do that again.
“Over the years Witch Hunters figured out various ways to strengthen themselves, some more unsavory than others.”
Liz makes a curious noise, but Max just shakes his head. “It could be rumours. The only person who would be able to tell you is a Witch Hunter.”
Liz makes a mental note to ask Alex at the next available opportunity.
theres actually a rewrite for obm on itch! at the moment i don’t think its super far into development(unsure, i havent caught up in a while ;;) and i think its attempting to do something similar to what you were talking about, general improvements to story, characters and choices :)
Yeah i saw it~
But unfortunately i'm a picky bitch and the style is a little eh simplistic? No offense
oh come on we deserve a better hades than that lmao
so that long post I just made about the book by McCrea?
TL;DR the Holmes stories suggest ACD’s inversion of the marriage plot trope by, rather than engaging any traditional heterosexual norms, he instead incorporates into the grand narrative the centrality and stability of a queer household built on a chance proximity encounter between two men, a notion that’s particularly supported by how Watson vacillates between these two poles in a remarkable way
basically loads of texts talk about Holmes possibly being gay but this was the first I’ve read that explores Watson’s potential bisexuality
also the scene in the opium den in The Man with the Twisted Lip is so unbelievably heavily queer coded that it basically is a cheat sheet of 19th century cruising behaviour - the signal, walk by and turn, pipe hanging between his legs, etc - it’s almost cheeky, how daring that scene is to a reader who knows what to look for

Guide-lines have always been a prominent feature in my life it seems. Where-ever I went, there was always a specific way to do something efficiently and cleanly. There was always instructions. Something simple and easy to follow.
Even with Pokemon it came easy. I knew what to do and how to do it because my brother helped me write a book of basic rules to follow with Pokemon. Childish and silly as we often were as kids, I find the rule book holds a lot of meaning and depth even to me now at this day and age.
---------------------------------------------
1. Pokemon love treats. Give them plenty.
2. Pokemon love exercise. Let them battle often.
3. Pokemon love rest. Don't overwork them.
4. Pokemon love interacting. Talk to them plenty.
But most of all.
5. Pokemon deserve love. So love them plenty.
---------------------------------------------
To this day I still remember that guidebook and the process I went through to write it. Misspelling words, misunderstanding what my brother asked me to write down, I remembered disliking the guidebook because it just seemed so tedious. It was filled with things one should just instinctively know...
And yet to this day, I look back at this old book and wonder something more. Something else this book could have taught me. Something my brother tried to teach me about life itself.
I do remember that lesson... Somewhat. That life has no guidelines and you are free to define your own as you go. Cause and effect. Grow and live... I remember that I never did write down anything like that because it just seemed like common knowledge.
Now I wish I did.
I'd let myself get so caught up in being talked into how I should feel and what I should do, that I hadn't once thought about if I actually cared about those opinions, and even if I did, what parts needed to change and what parts didn't.
I do care about my friends.
I do care about the figures from my own past.
I do care about Sabine, even if she NEVER makes it easy to.
Ah Sabine...
I'm Kiyoshi Muraso. Nice to meet you.
"Nice to meet you, Kiyoshi. I'm..."
