Watched a PBS documentary on the making of The Day After, where they're talking about how people were calling them traitors to america, saying they were doing the soviet's work for them, leaving notes on their cars that said "this could have been a bomb", and getting requests from the Reagan administration to make edits cause they dared to film a miniseries that showed starting a nuclear war would make people die.

There was conscious effort to cast them as villainous in the public eye because showing people the nuclear war we were very genuinely on the verge of starting would effect them was considered undermining America.

And they had this little clip in there of the ratings for the week it aired, which listed After M*A*S*H, and reminded me I wanted to see if anyone had posted the M*A*S*H finale (Which aired the same year as The Day After, and in which Hawkeye has a meltdown because he can't keep handling the atrocities he's seen) on youtube. They had! First comment,

You did it wrong. You did that era wrong, though. Go, you,- you need to go do it again.
